Weirdly, unevenly - yes, badly - written, this is a bitty, unorganised wander through some interestingly grim territory but instead of following some kind of map or well-informed guide, we get a messy, incoherant, self-opinionated rant.

But this guy is the cherry, the cream and the first layer of chocolate on the cake and tops it all off with unbelievably self-indulging comments. Fortunately, I have a notebook where I jot some initial thoughts on the book and an overall ranking so between the book blurb and that I did have a reasonable handle on what I thought at the time of reading. Christopher Berry-Dee speaks directly to killers and their oblivious loved ones to get inside the minds of the men and women who fall for murderers. If he is as much of an expert when it comes to serial killers and psychopaths as he claims he is, he would surely be the first one to remind us of how cunning and manipulative these individuals can be, and about how they can sometimes portray the loving husband and father for decades, and credibly so, before their mask slips. I don't like giving negative reviews and it's purely because I don't want to put the author down, but I just can't say I enjoyed reading this.it was just the description of the killers' lives and murders and their conviction with a couple of quotes thrown into the mix. Sonia Sutcliffe first discovered that her husband, Peter, was leading a secret existence as 'the Yorkshire Ripper' only when he was arrested. The only part I could get any enjoyment out of was the part concerntrating on Mary Bell, and that's because I find her facinating.

So this book concentrates on a select few serial killers and gives detailed profiles of the crimes each person committed. This book is not as much about the interviews which the author has with the serial killers in this book than it is about the author telling us about them. While I understand each chapter should explain a little about the individual and their crimes, I was looking forward to reading new information as a result of the author’s interviews, and observing how the serial killers conducted themselves during conversation. also, he seems to be really proud of himself and his interviewing technique because the killers told him stuff that led to the closures of several open homicide cases. It is also seen on page 228 with killer Virginia Susan Caudill where he states her date of birth and then the ugly and overweight Virginia Caudill Where once again he feels that the most important thing to let you know is that she is overweight and that he doesn't find her attractive. It’s so painfully melodramatic and all over the place that I couldn’t get past the first few chapters.

In fact, the only claims that the movie was based on this book come from Berry-Dee's own book product pages, and it's blatantly obvious that he titled his book Monster to cash in on the movie's popularity, and not the other way around. Christopher Berry-Dee, criminologist and bestselling author of books about the serial killers Aileen Wuornos and Joanne Dennehy, turns his uncompromising gaze upon women who not only kill, but kill repeatedly. I just thought that the white on that dark red was absolutely gorgeous and I also really enjoyed the simplicity of it all.

A world-renowned investigative criminologist, he has gained the trust of murderers across the world, entered their high security prisons, and discussed in detail their shocking crimes. Furthermore, by referring to these killers as monsters the author somehow draws a line between us and them.
