Review: The Army Painter Greedy Gold Colour Primer - the best

That took me about 75 minutes, including time spent waiting for stuff to dry, so spraying the other 6 infantry and all 6 bikes shouldn’t take any longer than that. The spray version isn’t what we thought it could be. But, how about airbrushing the Retributor Armour from the paint pot? Can that be done? Loincloth, shoulders and chest emblem – Added white to Kantor Blue and highlighted, then added a little more white to the mix and highlighted again. Retributor Armour paint has all of these properties, which have impressed me enough to bother writing an entire article about it. It’s simply fantastic for gold metal bits on your miniatures. Long shadows cast on a game board in the late afternoon… You could also airbrush the suggested Scale75 triad above, but then thin them with Tamiya X20A thinner instead of water.

The gold hue is beautifully rich and orange. The metallic flakes are relatively small and slightly finer than for example Colour Forge’s Gauntlet Gold. Coarse metallic particles are often a problem of metallic spray paints, as is a glossy finish that makes paint and especially washes adhere less well. Greedy Gold Colour Primer is no different, so my tip is to apply a thin layer of matt or satin varnish by spray can or airbrush, before you start painting. Add dots of pure white over the previous steps. This is the bit where suddenly it looks like metal and it’s very satisfying. You really are aiming for small dots (unless it’s a vehicle then you can go for bigger patches. RedsApply a dot of White to the top-left of the jewel (the part painted with Incubi Darkness). This should be a literal dot. Don’t worry if you mess up: Re-paint the area with Incubi Darkness and try again! I wanted to do my Custodes in NMM (Non metallic metal) but also wanted something I could replicate across a whole army without losing the will to live. After many hours of watching people wet blend / glaze etc I came up with this. It’s not the most realistic gold but I think it looks good and most importantly doesn’t take too long. People have described it as “cell shaded” which I like. The process is the same for vehicles or infantry, I just use an airbrush on the vehicles (but exactly the same colours and steps). The steps are quite repetitive and it looks a mess almost right until the end so keep persevering with it Golds Brown may not be the most exciting colour around, but you’ll find you use it on just about every miniature you paint, even if it’s just for their boots. I have a lot of brown paints, but the one I use the most is Rhinox Hide. It’s a rich, chocolatey colour with great coverage that is my number one choice for dark brown basecoats.
