Steve Bland, 38, from Cheshire, lost his wife Rachael, 40, in September last year following a two-year battle with primary triple-negative breast cancer. Firstly let me start by saying that I think Rachael Bland was a really brilliant radio presenter, and I think her work on 'You, Me and the Big C' was absolutely brilliant. I like 5 Live and I used to hear Rachel Bland on drive, then I heard about the popcast you, me and the big C and although I don't have cancer I find the popcast really informative and interested and it got me thinking about things you don't usually want to think about in a healthier way.

I put this book down in July as my father in law had cancer and I just couldn’t carry on reading it. I would lay you in your cot each night and silently communicate from my mind to yours, ‘I will do this, Freddie. The widower of BBC presenter Rachael Bland has revealed that he is expecting twins with his new wife. And the book is carrying on the work Rachael started - her other legacy, besides Freddie, her podcast and the way it is helping people with cancer themselves, their friends and families and indeed those treating it.

Steve met Amy, an advanced nurse practitioner at a cancer conference in Manchester in 2019, after he gave a talk about his late wife and her death from primary triple-negative breast cancer. I would lay you in your cot each night and silently communicate from my mind to yours, I will do this Freddie, I will gladly take whatever they throw at me if it means we can stay together. Now that may make me sound like a grief tourist but that is the element of her story that I was interested in reading. I would lay you in your cot each night and communicate from my mind to yours, 'I will do this, Freddie - I will take it gladly if it means we can still stay together'.

This "new normal", with Bland's metastasised and untreatable cancer, robbed the presenter of her future. something I’d been reluctant to put a number on before – and the answer came back "Days …possibly weeks".

I would lay you in your cot each night and silently communicate from my mind to yours, 'I will do this Freddie, I will gladly take whatever they throw at me if it means we can stay together'.
