For the best results, there should be more than one layer in the plasterboard. Some of the most popular manufacturers use layers of mass loaded vinyl, dense soundproof foam or fibreglass. Mass loaded vinyl can be effective on its own when added to plasterboard so it makes a big difference when used with other layers. A decrease in undesirable levels of noise can help in the reduction of stress levels. A decrease in unwanted noise will provide a peaceful and relaxing environment. This is more of an additional item than an alternative. If you have standard plasterboard then sealing any gaps would definitely help but not as much as the other options listed. Use this and acoustic tape as your finishing touches in your soundproof project for the most effective results. Conclusion Impact Sound Transmission (IIC Rating- Impact Insulation Classification) through floors is reduced up to 10 Times! Soundproofing tape provides you with the finishing touch you need to make the most of your acoustic barriers.

An acoustic sealant is an adhesive that is used between plasterboard and other insulation boards, particularly when working on acoustic insulation and soundproofing. An acoustic sealant is used to seal any gaps, preventing the transfer of noise between rooms, which can pass through even the smallest of gaps. When acoustic insulation boards are used with acoustic sealant, a complete barrier is created, and soundproofing will be much more efficient. Dot and dab is one of the ways in which you can fix plasterboard. Dot and dab can be used with a range of different adhesives, and involves the application of plasterboard adhesive at regular intervals along the plasterboard, before pressing the board firmly against the desired location to secure. For more information on how to dot and dab plasterboard, take a look at our guide on how to fix plasterboard. How to use scrim tape When a wood frame is covered in acoustic fabric with some other layer of high-density foam or fiberglass is known as acoustic fabric panels. They provide excellent sound absorption by controlling the echo and reverberations. The eco-friendly alternative to mineral wool and fiberglass insulation is acoustic cotton batts. They are 100 % recyclable and are made from post-industrial recycled content.

Plasterboards are a great option if you’re low on space. They are thin but effective, can be used directly on walls and ceilings or be installed between stud frames, and can be directly plastered over. MuteBoard Soundproof Plasterboard is ultra-thin and great for small or awkward rooms. A single layer of acoustic plasterboard will reduce noise by around 35db as long as you seal all the gaps. A busy restaurant would have a noise level of about 70db. You would half this meaning the noise would be reduced to that of a whisper. So pretty decent overall. If you added an extra layer of plasterboard, and maybe soundproof foam between it, then almost no noise should get through. Do you need to put a Stop to Squeaky Floors? Norton CST™ offers an easy-to-use solution to subfloor squeaks. The squeak is often caused by gaps between the subfloor and the joist. Norton CST™ virtually eliminates squeaks; it leaves a quieter & more comfortable floor. Acoustic plasterboard can be used on a party wall (a wall you share with another house) to deal with to help soundproof the wall from noisy neighbours. One of the most neglected benefits of sound insulation is its energy efficiency property. As most of the acoustic insulation has thermal properties you will see a substantial reduction in your heating and cooling cost.

Bitumen damping sheets are specially designed to decrease acoustic and vibrational noise. They are made from bitumen, synthetic rubber, and minerals. They are fire-resistant and can be cut to various shapes and sized as required. It is applied to the floor joist as an acoustic batten strip. The sound proof joist tape reduces both impact and airborne sound transmission. It can also stop squeaky floors as these squeaks are usually the side effect of there being a gap between the floor joist and sub-floor. Joist Tape - Stop Squeaky Floors You may also want to soundproof your living room not to keep sound… out but to keep it in! If you live in a flat or a bungalow or have a baby that’s a very light sleeper, then you could be considering soundproofing to keep talking/tv noise from carrying through. The Bedroom You wouldn’t use plasterboard on the floor so we can’t compare these. Noise between the floors can be an issue though. If you want to complete the soundproofing job and prevent impact noise these clips are a great idea. This is particularly important if you live in a flat.

This is definitely a room where you want to stop noise from coming in. There are a lot of different types of noise that could disturb the tranquility of your bedroom and also your sleep. A Garage Conversion Scrim tape is one of the most common products found in the plastering industry. Scrim tape is used to ensure plasterboards are connected seamlessly and prevents gaps from forming between the plasterboards. Joist Tape for Acoustic Isolation Reduces Impact and Airborne Sound Transmission Soundproofing Foam Tape for Floor Joists

Acoustic plasterboard is used in the same way as regular plasterboard so it can be used in any room in the house. The only possible exception would be in a bathroom as you would need moisture resistant plasterboard there. It would be fairly unusual however to want to soundproof your bathroom. Airborne Sound Transmission (STC Rating – Sound Transmission Class) through wall is reduced up to 20 Times! Joist Tape Technical Data Technical Data To use scrim tape, start at the top, where two plasterboards join, and apply a couple of inches of tape. Then simply pull the tape down the joint, pressing it securely onto the join. Once you reach the bottom of the plasterboards, cut with scissors or a sharp knife and secure the end of the scrim tape. Acoustic sealantA peaceful and relaxing environment in offices will help employers work faster and easier to hear customers over the phone. Soundproof insulation in the conference room will also help from confidential information from leaking out. Acoustic mineral wool is a type of material that has both the properties of soundproofing and sound absorption. They are fire-resistant and does not absorb water. When loosely installed between the cavities of the wall, floor or ceilings mineral wool provides a maximum sound absorption. Whichever option you choose, remember that soundproofing is all about filling the gaps. Once the walls are up for the best results you should use acoustic tape where the panels meet and acoustic sealant around the edges. You also need to remember floors transmit a lot on impact noise so if that’s what you’re hearing this will not help much. The Living Room We have a wide range of Resilient Sealing Tapes, Expanding Foam Tapes, Jointing Tapes and Acoustic Sealants to help complete your project. Using the right sealing materials will ensure perfect results and make installation that little bit easier. Paying attention to the small details and make sure every aspect of your soundproofing installation is completed fully using the right materials. The acoustic membrane can be used on floors, walls, and ceilings. It can be used alone, or in combination with soundproof plasterboard for additional dampening of noises or vibrations. Soprema Tecsound S100 is popular since it is self-adhesive, very easy to cut to size, and can easily be moulded into tight spaces and around unusually shaped parts of walls and ceilings.

Age resistant and chemically neutral against the most commonly used lacquers and plastics. Neoprene / EPDM is resistant to most caustic chemicals, resistant against ozone, moisture and UV radiation. Acoustic insulation is also known as sound insulation, noise insulation, soundproofing. Sound is defined as atmospheric or airborne vibrations perceptible to the ear. Noise is nothing but an unaccepted or undesirable sound. The sound which causes harm to others is called noise irrespective of its characteristics. A piece of music may be nice to listen during the day but maybe irritant during sleep at night. The purpose of acoustic insulation is to soundproof or decrease the intensity of sound transmitting from inside the house to outside and vice versa or to prevent sound transmission by the activity in the next room. For applications requiring higher loadings and improved longevity we have a natural rubber floor tape which is a denser material.

Acoustic foam is an open-celled foam used for acoustic treatment. Acoustic foam creates a sound barrier and the right combination of acoustic foam will decrease the level of sound waves frequency leaving the area and will also cut set down the outside noise.
