A great read I must say. A collection of powerful and sentimental letters that lets you enter different times and spaces, from luxury upper-classes in London to horrifying landfills dominated by battles. a wild, delicious excitement which I would not have lost for the world. [...] everything has a gloss upon it. My Mistress and My Friend (Anne Boleyn), “My heart and I surrender themselves into your hands, and we supplicate to be commended to your good graces, and that by absence your affections may not be diminished to us, for that would augment our pain… more than I ever thought could be felt.” To Calpurnia (my wife): “You will not believe what a longing for you posses me. The chief cause of this is my love; and then we have not grown used to be apart. So it comes to pass that I lie awake a great part of the night, thinking of you.” Another fun part of October is to go to corn mazes which are sometimes fun and hard to do with friends and family.

There's one inside from Daniel Webster who writes a letter to a woman who forgot her hat at his place after a dinner party. Some of these moved me to tears (Sir Walter Raleigh). Many made me giggle. Most made my heart smile. And few made my brows furrow. It truly is a lost art and confession of faith - written word. While some letters left me at peace, I found a sense of urgency and panic in most letters, desperation. What powerful insight to know that love brought even these powerful figures to their knees. p)pp p pp pp p"p p pp p &p)"pp p &p"p p p &p/p p &p"p p/&)p'pmy whole existence is devoted to her, even in spite of her. Schválně, kolik mužů po tomhle v knihkupectví asi tak šáhne? Anebo je to skutečně cíleno výhradně na muže, pokud by měli potřebu vyznat se svému objektu zájmu a inspirace nepřicházela?

Six years have gone by since I made my first great success in life and won you, and thirty years have passed since Providence made preparation for that happy success by sending you into the world. Every day we live together adds to my confidence, that we can never any more wish to be separated than that we can ever imagine a regret that we were ever joined. p pp"p p pp p p p p p p p&pp p < p )p p p p p p pp p p U.S. dollar banknote with map Photo by Christine Roy on Unsplash• United Nations Founded: 24 October 1945, San Francisco, California, United States; Ziniet, kas šo grāmatu padarītu vēl populārāku nekā to izdarīja tas, ka Kerija Bredšova to lasīja ''Sekss un lielpilsēta'' pirmajā filmā? Tas, ka to ieskaņotu audio formātā un tur šīs vēstules lasītu Benedikts :)These letters and the short biographical notes reveal some interesting, sometimes amusing details about famous people's private lives, such as the fact that Mozart and his wife both loved scatological jokes; Robert Burns was a dog (he got two women pregnant while carrying on with his "main", I guess you'd say, mistress; one of the pregnant women was the mistress's maid); Napoleon Bonaparte seems to have been very insecure about his wife's love for him and tortured over it; Charles Darwin made a pro-/con list when he considered marriage, "better than a dog anyhow" was on the pro- side and "not forced to visit relatives" in the con side (he subsequently sounded very happy with his choice though, even though he married his first cousin); Robert Browning's love for Elizabeth Barrett started as a fan's admiration; Mark Twain's in-laws had been conductors on the Underground Railroad; Alfred Douglas did not abandon Oscar Wilde after his process, on the contrary, he campaigned in the press against the sentence and petitioned the Queen for clemency. You still fascinate and inspire me. You influence me for the better. You’re the object of my desire, the #1 Earthly reason for my existence.’
