Noting Prideth is due to rise soon, F'lar suggests T'bor throw the flight open to rid himself of her, but he and Orth refuse. It is also true that in Dragonquest we get the first few hints that Pern is changing (something which will be explored later in the series), such as with the efficiency obsessed master Fandarell rather surprising Lessa by noting that women in the smith hall worked on any engineering or design projects they could, or Brekke’s outright question to F’nor as to why a woman could not ride a fighting dragon, a comment to which F’nor gently responds that “fighting thread is hard work” to which Brekke tartly observes “so is running a weyr. Jaxom joins Felessan, and briefly notes the egg he touched is motionless, although Felessan notes that sometimes eggs don't hatch. From this title forward, there is no actual book to speak of, instead a monster bestiary is included in the Battle records, showing a list of monsters they have defeated, alongside an Alchemy recipe list and an Item list (a first for the series). Though I did then read Dragonflight, due to the vagaries of library services it was actually a few Pern books later that I got back to Dragonquest.
