Why We Like It: The little Drummerboy American Dark is not-so-little… it’s got big, robust flavors that will put other non-alcoholic spirits to shame. I got rid of the expectation that a NA whiskey would actually taste like a traditional whiskey, at least at this point in time. Hopefully, in the future that will change, but for now, you have to work with what you got. One thing you notice when you delve into the alcohol free spirit world, is just how many companies that produce these drinks are based in Scandinavia, particularly Sweden. This time, we’re looking at Gnista, a company based in Malmo that specialise in alcohol free drinks and have been around since 2015.

Some brands get surprisingly close to true bourbon flavors, but there are always some differences. In fact, even if you choose the best product on the market, you’ll probably still know when you’re drinking real bourbon and when you’re not. Apple Cider Vinegar. You can replace this with red wine vinegar or really any type of vinegar. I like the apple cider vinegar because it enhances the apple juice, while adding acidity.

Not Bad / Not Great

Flavour profile:Generous flavours of vanilla and toasted nuts with herbal notes providing a complexity, offset by a long, mellow finish. Bourbon whiskey: made from mash that consists of at least 51% corn (maize) and aged in new charred oak barrels. Non-alcoholic bourbon is an alcohol-free beverage that mimics the taste and aroma of real bourbon. It's an ideal solution for everyone who wants to enjoy a glass of whiskey without getting a headache the next morning. Much of the excellence comes from the careful creation processes, which include thermal extraction, reverse distillation, and blending. The blending is particularly important, as it allows Spiritless to get a consistently better outcome than they could with a single batch. This non-alcoholic alternative is a feast for both your palate and eyes. The “spirit” is housed in a gorgeous bottle that reminds us of old medicine bottles, with traditional candied pecan and spicy rye flavors. 9. Curious Elixir No. 5

It’s not the same type of heat that you would get from a traditional whiskey, however, it’s one of the best substitutes I’ve tried so far. Though it doesn’t replicate the heat or intensity of a traditional dark spirit, it makes a good alternative for those looking for something different. So with that criteria in mind, I’ve categorized the NA whiskeys I’ve tried into a few groups. Hopefully this list will help save you the pain and cost I went through in searching for good whiskey alternatives. Categories: Traditional bourbon whiskey has strict regulations when it comes to production. That includes ingredients, production methods, resting in barrels, and alcohol content. For non-alcoholic bourbon, there are no strict regulations, at least not yet. They are a company that only make alcohol free drinks, and they claim that their output represents “quite simply the finest range of non-alcoholic classic spirits the world has ever seen.” Pretty bold claim, right? What we don’t like: There’s nothing overly special about this drop and you’ll generally have had enough after one.

Whatever the reason for it, when I get that urge for a whisky, I don’t always want to drink alcohol, I just want the taste and the warming feeling that it gives me. For a long time, this has seemed an impossible complication of impulses – wanting whisky but not wanting alcohol. Some products contain no alcohol at all, as they’re made using essences, extracts, and other natural ingredients. Other companies take a different approach, where they start with a base spirit and later remove the alcohol through reverse distillation. In terms of price, this is positioned right in the middle of what you can expect to pay for a drink like this, and it is similar to a ‘standard’ bottle of whisky. This is a great starting point for you to dip your toes into the world of alcohol free whisky – give this a go and you will not be disappointed.

If you're seeking bourbon alternatives you've come to the right place. We've compiled a list best non-alcoholic bourbon for Whiskey enthusiasts. Ideally, I’ll find a non alcoholic version that tastes like the real thing, but for now, I’m mixing and experimenting with what I’ve got. Alcohol free bourbon exists, so you can bet that there are other alcohol free spirits too, including rum, gin, and tequila. There are also some alcohol free whiskeys that don’t follow the bourbon style. Thanks to the current hype around non-alcoholic spirits for drinks, there are more and more brands and products, offering an incredible selection. However, this list focuses exclusively on the best options. It is reminiscent of dark whiskey or rum, with oak barrel flavors, chocolate rye spice, and a warm, drying finish. It’s a great sipper, but it will hold itself extremely well in a mixed drink, too. [ 2] 6. The Spirit of Bourbon

Yes, most non-alcoholic whiskeys are aged inside charred oak barrels. This process infuses the non-alcoholic spirit with charred oak flavors reminiscent of actual whiskey. Can It Be Legally Called Whiskey? Soy Sauce. I always recommend using low sodium sauce sauce. And since soy sauce IS higher in sodium you don’t need to add any extra salt to this recipe! A combination of a small amount of neutral spirit and botanicals (which give the spirit its floral, fruity or bittersweet flavour) are added to a still, which is then heated through multiple rounds of distillation. This process (which can take around six weeks to complete) helps to extract the flavour of the ingredients before the alcohol is removed from the liquid. Voila! How we test non-alcoholic spirits So what is the result of this combination of the old and the new? Well, the process of creating Feragaia takes around two months, from harvest to glass. This amount of time “optimises the extraction of natural flavours, which are then distilled, hand blended, cut with Scottish water and rested to achieve Feragaia’s bold depth of flavour.” They use 14 different botanicals in total, and it is produced in small batches to ensure quality. Since non-alcoholic whiskeys don’t contain alcohol, they will not have complied with this law. However, brands still label them whiskey anyway for better identification. Is Non-Alcoholic Whiskey Good For You?Well, yes (as you’ve probably already gathered from it’s inclusion on this list). They describe the drink as being ‘impossibly crafted’ – not a helpful line when you’re writing a section entitled ‘How Is Alcohol Free Whisky Made?’ – and there is something quite mysterious about the taste of this drink. For some of them though, I’ve only been able to find them online in UK stores, and they don’t appear to be available here in the US, which is a bummer.
