Editorial independence means being able to give an unbiased verdict about a product or company, with the avoidance of conflicts of interest. Nobody is driving a Ford Model T so why do some think we should go back to Cameras without IBIS and lens without in-lens stabilization. For its focal length, the lens works quite well in low light situations and the always difficult conditions of shooting after dark with only the stage lights for illumination. The 70-300 VC will show some flare if a bright light is in the frame, but the amount of flare is not unusual.

As usual, this distortion is much more significant when the lens is used on full-frame cameras such as the 1Ds Mark III. It's no secret that Tamron is trying to keep size and weight down in their offerings, not to mention the pricing compared to other EF mount options.

We shoot both images using the default JPEG settings and manual white balance of our test bodies, so the images should be quite consistent from lens to lens. Sealing: All three lenses in this comparison have a rubber grommet at the lens-mount plus further weather-sealing throughout the construction. At this point the Tamron’s rotating focus ring becomes a problem and the imposed grip means the lens cannot be steadied as well as would otherwise be the case. I've used nearly every digital camera system under the sun, but for my personal work, I love the slow-paced nature of large format film. This will be noticeable in certain shots - such as when an evenly-blue sky is in the corner of a frame.

Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD review | Digital Camera

Tamron has been heavily majoring on creating E-mount lenses for Sony mirrorless cameras recently, and most of them have been rather fabulous, from the 20mm, 24mm and 35mm f/2. VC USD looks attractive with its matte black finish and polycarbonate construction; it is a new breed of telephoto zoom lens from Tamron, and not just an incremental upgrade from its previous incarnation. The macro facility is available in the 180-300mm focal length range, via a switch on the lens barrel, and offers a maximum 0. It did move, and having to fix it a second time made me notice that the element wasn't put in correctly the first time I did it.

Just one other reviewer noted this in this forum, so I assume that this could be a specific problem of my copy. It's available in Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Sony fit and, on APS-C bodies, the effective zoom range is 105-450mm or, for Canon cameras, a slightly longer 112-480mm. Importantly, full-time manual focus override is also possible and the lens is also fully compatible with the "Direct Manual Focus (DMF)" system feature of Sony cameras that enables the user to instantly switch between autofocus and manual focus. However, IBIS can struggle at longer focal lengths and many manufacturers add optical stabilization to their telephoto lenses, that can then work in conjunction with IBIS systems to great effect. The 70-300mm focal length range was a traditional one in the film days, covering a range from relatively short to fairly long focal lengths.

To make the 300mm telephoto focal length more fun and accessible, TAMRON focused intently on designing a telephoto zoom lens that's both small and lightweight. Also, because the macro function is available at the lens' longer telephoto settings, an extended subject-to-lens working distance is maintained. At 70mm and ƒ/4, the lens is quite sharp, with some light corner softness in the top right and bottom left corners; stopping down to ƒ/5. Centre-sharpness is exceptional in the 70-100mm sector of the zoom range, especially for this class of telephoto zoom. The lens would also be worthy of consideration for Sony’s APS-C format E-mount bodies, but relatively few of these have IBIS, making consistently sharp handheld shooting difficult to achieve.

While the larger pixels on our full-frame EOS-5D test bed helped some aspects of this lens' performance, its distortion and vignetting become quite high when you ask it to cover the full 35mm frame. The lightweight construction is a bonus from a handling point of view, especially for long periods of handheld shooting and simply for carrying the lens around. I took pics at a house concert and the combination never refused to focus and it was really dark there. I bought this lens as a starter all purpose zoom, i must say so far its not a bad lens, very light so its great to travel with, sometimes images can be not as sharp as i would like, better sharpness through the middle fstops.

He is also an encyclopedia when it comes to all manner of cameras, camera holsters and bags, flashguns, tripods and heads, printers, papers and inks, and just about anything imaging-related. We had to hold those big lenses real close, 3 point anchoring, still your breathing - the whole kit and kaboodle. I was immediately impressed with its usefulness as a nature photography lens, being able to photograph birds in flight or at rest, or switch to macro and take excellent photos of insects, small animals, flowers, etc. Well, while i wouldn't say the Pentax images were any sharper, I would say that the Pentax did a better job of accurately nailing the focus more often that the Pro? The internal focusing mechanism also means that the front element neither extends nor rotates throughout the focus range, which is a bonus when using rotation-specific filters such as a circular polariser or graduated neutral density filter. That’s no bad thing as it’s a reliable, accurate, fast and virtually silent system, and is also compatible with the Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF modes of Sony’s more recent E-mount cameras, as well as enabling Direct Manual Focus. The new Tamron 70-300mm telephoto zoom features an RXD stepping focus motor for quiet and fast AF operation and a moisture-sealed construction. With the lens mounted on the sub-frame Canon 7D, the lens produced some exceptionally sharp images, more towards the ''wider'' end of 70mm than when zoomed in fully to 300mm.
