Despite these weaknesses, there were some definite strong points within this novel – though both pretty much occurred at the end, so you had to wade through a lot of meh to get there. As the narrative switches between the viewpoints of Tom, Karen and Brigid the reader is presented with insight into each of their plights, but the utter lack of credibility make it hard to empathise or quite frankly care. That in itself isn't unusual-most nights he comes home and opens the door and walks right in, because most nights Karen's home, waiting for him.

With the focus also on marital secrets, Lapena soon has the reader entangled in the web of lies engulfing this suburban couple. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Proving this requires Hector to team up with his daughter Nicole, who only somewhat tolerates him as a result of years of neglect. It tells the story of Karen Krupp, who got into a car accident after, as witnesses have claimed, she fled from home unexpectedly. Karen is a very detailed person and while she is home recuperating from her injuries, she begins to notice things in her home are misplaced. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money. He revealed that he was supposed to meet their neighbor, Brigid, who asked to see Tom by the river only she didn’t show up. While some shake their fists at the heavens when authors employ this tactic, I feel quite the opposite.

Before he died, it seems, Felix Vodyanov was linked to a passenger ferry that sank in 1994, an even earlier U. The instant his pristine Stepford life is disrupted, he devolves from loving husband to paranoid adulterer. Such out of character behaviour for his respectable wife of nearly two-years confounds Tom, however a prologue has already shown Karen fleeing an abandoned restaurant in a panicked and confused state, so clearly Tom might not know his wife quite as well as he thinks. The electrifying new thriller from Shari Lapena, author of the bestselling novel of the year, The Couple Next Door. There's a knock on the door—the police are there to take Tom to the hospital where his wife has been admitted.I thought about what it must have been like to welcome home a man who had been away for years, who had experienced the horrors of war and who was now expected to get on with life, to build a career, to take up with a family he hardly knew any more and to live in a country ravaged by years of war and rationing. It's a very competitive business the suspense/mystery thriller market but I believe the author has crafted this perfectly and without a doubt I expect this to be huge in July when it's released.

A Stranger In The House" is a brilliant and intriguing suspense thriller that was so compelling I couldn't put it down - I know it's a cliche - but I found it so easy to read and follow, I just wanted to keep on turning the intriguing and entertaining pages. Lapena keeps the well-developed twists churning, with each a surprise notch in this ever-evolving plot, and she continues this skillful storytelling until the stunning twist at the end.

All of this lying and relationship conflict and – did I mention – amnesia makes for quite the intricate web that Lapena leaves her readers to untangle. Maybe, but the sasquatches whom the volcano displaced contributed to the statistics, too, if only out of self-defense.
