Beware the Quiet Ones: Normally, Yumi seems to be shy and quiet. But her ultimate breakdown turns out to be among the worst as a whole. Mei dislikes cell phones, saying that it disturbs her to be connected to other people at all times by electromagnetic waves, most likely a by-product of her solitary nature. Nevertheless, she carries one by request of her aunt. Her hobby is drawing, and she is a member of the school's art club, though she states that she doesn't enjoy creating art so much as she enjoys looking at it. Mei is also very insecure about her prosthetic eye, which is why she hides using her eyepatch. When she shows it to Kouichi for the second time, however, he says that it's beautiful and she doesn't need to hide it. Because of her eye, Mei knows that death is not a blessing since when it happens, you are all alone. Always Save the Girl: He will do anything to protect Mei, even turn against the entire class when they try to kill her because they think she's the extra student. Because his father is working abroad, Kōichi Sakakibara moves to his birth town of Yomiyama to live with his grandparents and his aunt Reiko Mikami, where he spends the first month hospitalized due to a pneumothorax. His classmates, Izumi Akazawa, Tomohiko Kazami and Yukari Sakuragi, visit him but act strange. In the hospital, Kōichi meets an uncanny girl, Mei Misaki. Once he recovers, he attends school, where Mei says that their class, Class 9-3, is close to death. Adapted Out: She doesn't appear in the manga, and the hikikomori brother is Izumi Akazawa's brother instead.

Ax-Crazy: In the anime climax, she snaps when she's convinced that Mei is the extra and tries to kill her. Loner-Turned-Friend: Mei is forced into complete isolation at school because everyone at her class ignores her presence as a countermeasure against the Calamity. Kouichi befriends her despite it being against the rules of the class. The styles are very different. While in the manga the characters design is soft and clean, in the anime the chief animation director based the character design used in the anime on Noizi Ito's original concept. In the original novel, the doll that Mei brings to the morgue was a gift to Misaki after her kidney transplant. The kidney Misaki received was not Mei's (due to minors not being allowed to donate). Misaki told Mei which doll she wanted but died before Mei could bring it to the hospital. Hands-Off Parenting: She doesn't know or care about anything Mei does at school. Nor does she interfere in her life except for certain unspecified things. She does make Mei carry a cell phone at least.

Another was one of those series which had me waiting eagerly for Mondays to arrive and wishing that the weekend would end sooner. For twelve weeks, it was my priority above all else to watch this amazing series, and to be honest, I'm already awaiting the release of the OVA in May. If I had to say what makes it so incredible, I would cite the short series length, the clever plot with a brilliant resolution, and outstanding animation as the main contributing factors, although the promise of blood will probably be enough for most people to decide whether this show is for them or It's not fair for her to force her own ideas on the rest of us! There must be so many things you wanna know, Kouichi."

Summary: Kobayashi who lives in an apartment, got Tohru pushed onto her to live together. Tohru thinks of man... Gone Horribly Right: The entire reason Class 3-3 suffers a yearly Calamity. Misaki was very popular and well-liked, until he died in a fire that also took the rest of his family. His classmates were so heartbroken by his death that they pretended he was still alive... which resulted in Misaki appearing in Class 3-3's graduation photo as a corpse, just like the other students wanted. Because of this, Class 3-3 became a magnet for dead people, as well as an annual curse that kept targeting people indiscriminately until the dead person is... well, dead. O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Throughout the 3 episodes, she's been nothing but a nice girl, with a lot of questions to ask Kouichi. The only time she ever raised her voice in anger, was in episode 3 scolding Kouichi for mentioning Misaki's name. This was one of the first clues that tipped Kouichi off that Class 3-3 isn't what it seemed. Cannot Spit It Out: Implied to have a crush on Kouichi and she does a pretty rough job at actually conveying her feelings.

Plot-Triggering Death: His death was what triggered the Calamity, when everyone pretended he still existed and ended up attracting the dead to their class.

Don't Call Me "Sir": He prefers that Kouichi not call him "Sensei," ("Sir" in the English localization of the novel) so Kouichi and Mei call him "Chibiki-san" instead. Exact Words: She said she wouldn't kill Kouichi, but it doesn't stop her from beating and cutting him. Mei seemed indifferent to Akazawa and vice versa in the beginning. However throughout the series, whenever Misaki is around Kouichi, Izumi glares at her in a spiteful manner, especially after many of the death scenes. It all comes to a head in episode 10 when Izumi demands that Mei apologizes for her perceived part of the calamity, despite Kouichi's, Teshigawara's, and Mochizuki's protests. a b "Another" (in Japanese).
