by DJ Shadow accomplishes both of these and more, to create a work that is not just cohesive like most great albums should be (with the exception of 'great sprawl' albums e. Donuts began simply enough as an idea to turn a particularly good demo beat tape into a full-length release, and has since became a classic hip-hop album, one of the defining works of J Dilla's life. While there are several singles from this album of note, the standout Track for me will always be "Organ Donor". Both the LP and the 7” have been remastered, for the fir st time, from the original studio tapes, revealing clarity unheard until now. The sleeves have some artwork on them and are labeled to match which LP they hold with the track listing and additional information printed on them. DJ Shadow, aka Josh Davis, could be credited with bringing newfound introspection to the gloating sounds of hip-hop. From those smokey Mo’ Wax days back in the mid 90s, one of the pinnacle achievments of turntable sampling and recycling.

The DJ built songs out of layer upon layer of sampled instruments and other sound fragments, most of which he processed, looped and re-arranged far beyond recognition. They both bear the black labels BUT the first one is definitely a digitally sourced record when the latter is the same pressing as the original from 1996. Seems appropriate then when a track off it is used in the online documentary series Everything is a Remix, but I'm getting ahead of myself. The album's content features both moody, slow-paced tracks and upbeat jams reminiscent of DJ Shadow's early hip hop influences.

But I’m proud of these releases, and I’m hoping that perhaps they’ll bring some much - needed enjoyment to a small percentage of those who remember 1996 and an era of optimism that ‘Endtroducing’ helped soundtrack. Through a combination of tireless record collecting and mastery of the sampler, DJ Shadow crafts cinematic grooves out of rock, jazz, soul, hip hop, electronica, archive interviews and anything else he can get his deeply refined hands on. Two of hip hop's most brilliant minds and prolific artists met on 2004's Madvillainy which features music by Madlib and words by MF Doom. Condensed with urban oscillations and scatological beats, Endtroducing shutters with eclectic samples and aural montages that reach beyond the constraints of hip-hop style. it flips hip hop inside out all over again like a reversible glove, and again, and again, and each time it's sudden and new. Shadow’s friends, Tom Shimura (Asia Born) blurry dude in a white wig and sweater, and right behind him Xavier Mosley (Chief Xcel). Davis is not only a master sampler and turntablist supreme, he is also a serious archeologist with a world-thirsty passion for seeking out, uncovering and then ripping apart the discarded graces of some other generation, that pile of broken dreams, and sewing them back together into a tapestry of chronic bleakness and beauty.was produced by Shadow in the span of two years using minimal amounts of equipment, most notably the Akai MPC60 sampler. Nowhere on the sleeves nor labels do the words "Originally released in 1996" appear on this release. And the more stuff you listen to the more you're inclined to delve into the dark and weird corners of music. While some of his tracks float serenely on a cloud of jazzy phrasing and ambient textures, Shadow always lands on his beat. The album is considered to be a landmark work in the instrumental hip hop movement, with DJ Shadow's innovative sampling techniques and arrangements influencing other producers to create similar sample-based works.
