Description

How you update something that is already on top of its category? Corsair knows this well, because its people already did it with the highly popular RM850x. The newest revision of this product was introduced on 2021 featuring a magnetic leviation fan and three EPS connectors for power hungry CPUs. Corsair continues teaming up with Channel Well Technology (CWT) to produce platforms based on its desired specifications. Between generations, CWT manages to increase the overall efficiency to the top-end of the 80 PLUS Gold range, going by specifications. The RM850x achieves high performance with 115V and a top place among Gold 850W PSUs, with 230V. The last time I reviewed the RM850x for Tom’s Hardware, the 850 G7 hadn’t been released, and as you can see on the 115V performance graph, it has a slight lead. I should also point out that I haven’t used the new scoring algorithm for the above graphs because I don’t have data for all PSUs, especially some older ones. The new algorithm considers more factors so that the final scores can change. Epilogue We find it curious that Corsair bundles three 8-pin CPU cables for this 850W model. Very few boards demand this level of power - AMD Ryzen Threadripper, mostly - so it's more of a keeping-the-bases covered kind of move than of current practical value. It actually makes more sense on the 1,000W model, which also has a trio of CPU plugs.

Corsair changes the grille design between generations, too, and we think it now looks better. Measuring 150mm wide, 86mm high and 160mm deep, there shouldn't be installation issues in any decent chassis. Build quality is good. Resonant LLC Topology with DC-to-DC Conversion: Provides clean, consistent power, reduces coil whine for quieter operation, and enables use of more energy efficient I cannot hide it; I am a big fan of the Corsair RMx PSUs because they offer high performance and reliability at a price that won’t empty your wallet. Currently, the RMx members are among the best in the mid-price category, in every Wattage, from 550W up to 1000W. The OEM of this line is CWT, which also made the previous RMx models, and the exterior design allows you to distinguish the new RMx units from the older ones easily. The triangular perforations on the punched fan grill and the front exhaust are characteristic of Corsair’s fresh PSU designs.

As you can see, the trio can be plumbed in concurrently, alongside two runs of dual 6+2-pin PCIe for a couple of high-powered graphics cards. Having a total of 14 SATA feels overkill in 2021, though.

To ensure optimal performance, the maximum output current for the +3.3V is 25 A, while the +12V has a maximum output current of 70.8 A. The +5V has a maximum output current of 25 A, and the -12V has a maximum output current of 0.8 A. The +5Vsb has a maximum output current of 3 A. The Corsair RM850x is designed to provide reliable power to various computer components. Its specifications indicate that it can handle demanding power requirements for high-performance systems. The presence of a single fan with a 135 mm diameter suggests effective cooling, which is crucial for maintaining stable performance and preventing overheating.

SIDE MOUNTED CONNECTIONS

cables make PC builds and upgrades easy, as you need only connect the cables your system requires. An RM850x PSU is quiet, efficient and dependable enough to power your highperformance

Case will likely be the Crystal 280x or some sort of a Mid Tower. I do need to upgrade as I only have a Fractal Design Nano S which only fits an ITX. The RMx line has a deserved reputation for premium ripple suppression. For this reason, Corsair adds cable-integrated capacitors to the main ATX, CPU and PCIe cables. Harnessing Corsair's ever-expanding fan range, the first meaningful change sees the 2018 model's rifle-bearing 135mm NR135L fan replaced by a 140mm magnetic levitation NR140ML spinner. This is a proper upgrade that ought to provide quieter operation and better longevity. On our 850W model it remains off until around 320W, and then rises smoothly up to full capacity, running at around 1,200rpm. Supports Modern Standby sleep mode for extremely fast wake-from-sleep times and better low-load efficiency. As before, five sensible capacities ply the range - 550W, 650W, 750W, 850W, 1,000W - and certification stays at 80 PLUS Gold. Let's focus on what is new.

Timings

your computer faster and consume less power with support for Modern Standby sleep mode. Zero RPM mode ensures virtually silent operation at low and medium loads. Fully modular A 135mm ML fan utilizes a magnetic levitation bearing and custom engineered rotors for high performance, low noise, and superior reliability.
