He was known to say that, "When you fold, the ritual and the act of creation is more important than the final result. This is an enlarged and rearranged edition of the fourth book of the board-leaved series, no 7, above. My absolute favorite, which was also what I had seen in person at the museum, is Yoshizawa’s self-portrait in origami.

In subsequent decades Yoshizawa folded and taught origami, published books on the art, and participated in innumerable events on an international scale. The great majority of Yoshizawa’s books ere in Japanese and were not easy to obtain in other countries. Origami (折り紙, Japanese pronunciation: [oɾiɡami] or [oɾiꜜɡami], from ori meaning “folding”, and kami meaning “paper” (kami changes to gami due to rendaku)) is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture.Inui took us on a walking tour of the neighbourhood, passing several small temples and shrines and one larger shrine, with the small garden bright with spring flowers and with an ancient Camellia tree about a hundred years old. His first achievement was to break out of the limitations of square paper by developing the possibilities of the bird base. As we talked, we were joined by Giovanni Maltagliati, the secretary of Centro Diffusione Origami, the Italian origami society and his wife, Gianna.

After her husband's death, she worked on preserving and disseminating his legacy throughout the world, directing and supporting the International Origami Centre with her constant activity, and passing down the artist's original techniques, including wetfolding, one of his inventions. Before that time, I had seen several of his artworks only in photographs and folded just one or two of his models. Akira Yoshizawa: The Art of Origami" is a beautiful and comprehensive tribute to this unparalleled grandmaster of origami. Several other meetings followed including at the Second Intenational Meetig of Scientific Origami at Otsu, to the north of Kyoto in 1994 and another at Munich in Germany in October, 1995. Strats visits to other countries, promoted by the Ministry of External Affairs of Japan, through the Japan Foundation. Lang has been deeply involved in origami since the age of six, when he discovered several instructions for traditional designs in a library book.

Whereas his early models often had split backs, he quickly discovered how to fold his animals with rounded, closed backs. OK, all the models have been previously published, but to find such a selection in one place, in English (OK, American) is a real joy. I was fascinated by the corridors of the castle, the wooden floors of which were deliberately made to squeak to warn of the presence of intruders. Sous un aspect parfois très simple se cache une rigueur de la conception et des trouvailles techniques étonnantes encore aujourd'hui.

They were delightfully named the "nightingale" floors and that is how they sounded as we walked along them.

We take intellectual property concerns very seriously, but many of these problems can be resolved directly by the parties involved. Over many years he has made repeated visits all over the world sponsored by the Japan Foundation to encourage the study of paperfolding among children and adults alike. Yoshizawa-sensei's work stands unchallenged at the pinnacle of origami achievement and this new collection should be required reading for any student of the art. He has strong views about the nature of folding and in particular holds that paperfolding should be something more than merely a geometrical and technical accomplishment. But not so good for progression to advanced level as would have folded most/similar projects before and no help being given to enable higher achievement. In this book, Akira Yoshizawa, president of the International Origami Society, brings the joy of origami to readers through creative and fun animal pieces. This was of Romulus and Remus being suckled by the wolf, a re-creation in paper of the famous statue in Rome.
