Rap vocals captured through this mic retain the intricate details and cut through the mix without any problem. I found the captured audio to be crystal clear and had enough warmth, which rivaled the audio quality of mics that were triple the price.

The highly sensitive P420 is one of the best affordable rap vocal mics available. Its impressive attention to detail makes this microphone a great choice for capturing crisp sounding intricate rap lyrics. Read a review that said he had the C1 for 4 years before it crapped out. Another review (the video one from above), had his for 1 1/2 years before deciding to upgrade. It has a more rugged mic design with a heavy gauge mesh grill at the top. This is a gauge that can withstand heavy-duty. It is a little over two pounds in weight, making it feel quite heavy in hand. The Samson Audio has been a great studio mic. It can produce good results on stage, but it is best when used in the studio. Different rappers have varying vocal ranges. Some may predominantly rap in the lower registers, while others may prefer to rap at a higher pitch. Generally speaking, the human voice doesn’t go beyond the parameters of 20Hz – 20 kHz.

Who this mic benefits?

With dual tone controls, the SM7B can be tailored to suit any vocal style. It features a switchable passive EQ for instantly cutting out low frequencies, boosting the overall presence and mid-range. Shure is one of the leading providers of microphones globally, famous for its SM57 and SM58 dynamic microphones. The SM7B is a unique offering, which rivals the two aforementioned mics in terms of popularity. It's a fairly capable mic for the money. The sound captured by the Origin is open, warm, and rich with harmonics. No matter what style of rap vocals you want to record, this pristine condenser mic will most likely do the job well enough. Despite the treble-heavy nature of this mic, it doesn’t sound harsh at all.

C01 | Samson

Ah, the tried and true Samson C01. Believe it or not, I’ve had this mic since 2007! Wow. Time really does fly. I can’t say enough good things about this baby. It’s rugged as a freakin’ barbell and can withstand a lot of abuse. In fact, once I jokingly told my friends that if I only had an SM7B at my disposal, I could record an entire album with it (vocals, instruments, everything). A go-to choice for recording engineers and vocalists who want to capture pristine audio quality, the TLM 102 sounds impeccable across a variety of recording purposes. This microphone is perfectly suited for rapping. It features a unique transformer-less design and provides you with all of the detail associated with high-end large-diaphragm condensers.

Samson C01 Condenser Microphone - Merchant City Music

The first condenser mic stands out in a world filled with great models. The Samson C01 is the most popular and excellent condenser microphone. It’s not easy to say that this fantastic product is being discussed. However, finding a better-reviewed microphone at such a low price is still possible. Even if you upgrade to a more premium rap vocal mic in future, you can still choose to keep this one as a decent secondary option. When compared to cheaper mics like the Audio-Technica AT2020, the overall sound just seemed more detailed and 'real' to me. Trust me, you can put this up against a Neumann and you won't notice any perceivable difference half the time. The C01 does add a little color to recordings, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It has a fairly smooth, flat frequency response, so there’s plenty of room for processing your vocals retrospectively in your chosen DAW. Essentially, be prepared to spend some dollars on the proper equipment. XLR condenser microphones need to be accompanied by additional gear, unlike a plug-and-play USB mic. The difference between a USB microphone and an XLR microphone. What are people using? The two sensor membranes are fragile. They are designed to collect more decent sound than a dynamic coil. It also has a gold-plated Xlr connector. The frequency response of the mic shows a gentle drop-off below 80Hz, plus a gentle presence/air boost centred around 10kHz. The response is quoted at 40Hz to 18kHz (the graph indicates that levels are down by around 6dB at these points), which is more like the Rode NT1 than the models mentioned earlier. Sensitivity is quoted at 33dB/Pa and, in practice, this was comparable with the other capacitor mics I tested it against and, indeed, a little higher than some. The maximum SPL handling is 136dB, which simply means loud sounds won't upset it. In Use Another thing to look out for when choosing a hip hop-compatible vocal mic is high-pass filters and pads. It’s common for condenser vocal mics to offer you the option of removing low-end frequencies when they are not required. See also How To Fix Iphone Microphone?
