Description

The Restrap Mag Bottle comprises a separate mount and bottle. Bolted to the bicycle frame in place of the traditional cage is a base plate containing two studs housing powerful magnets.

In spite of the pricey system, this is one that I’d highly recommend as it works like a charm, especially if your bike is pushed for space. The bottle twist was espacially engineered to do away with conventional bottle cages, to take up a little space on the bike frame as possible. Thanks to its minimalistic design, the Bottle Twist can fit even the tighest bike frame and can be positioned on any part of the frame, from the crossbar to the saddle bar; which ever point is most conventient for the user. The bottle itself comes in cool looking clear smoked plastic. Made of dishwasher safe polypropylene and 600ml in size, it’s pleasingly free of the chemical taste that can mar some bottles. With its twist to release mechanism the Mag Bottle won’t suffer the same fate, allowing you to load up your bike unhindered.

The standard bolt spacing is around 64mm apart. Brands typically use elongated eyelets for frame height adaptability and compatibility, while some will use a series of smaller eyelets to achieve the same effect. Still it’s much more secure than many of the lightweight carbon cages that some weight-weenie brands produce. Topeak offers multiple cage and tool box configurations to match frame space and orientation. But of course, the more features on the multi tool, the more it weighs and the more room it requires.

So, would I recommend the Restrap Mag Bottle? Other than from a purely subjective aesthetic standpoint cageless water bottles can appear a solution to a problem that had seemed pretty well solved. Twin slot and hole mounts allow for extra adjustability when it comes to making multiple bottle cages work together. There’s a choice of two different cosmetic 3K carbon finishes and multiple colour swatch options on the glossy UD carbon versions.

Arundel Mandible Carbon bottle cage

This was taken before the bottle was lost. Quite a bit of grime accumulated beforehand. Photo by Matt Miller. The mount is attached to the bike frame with the screws provided. The bottle just needs to be brought close to the mount and the magnetic attraction pulls the bottle in. The mechanical mechansim then secures the bottle." As far as mountain biking is concerned, you’re going to want to use bottle cages that your water bottles don’t fly out of the minute you hit the rough stuff.

Pros: Impressive bottle grip, lightweight, expanded entry angles, 9 colour options, sliding mount, tough Pretty from the off, as the bottle isn’t being repeatedly inserted into a gritty cage, it’ll stay looking new almost indefinitely. Simply hold the bottle near the magnetic holder, and it will snap firmly into place. To remove, twist it away from the holder and it will come free. As the bottle can only be disengaged in a twisting motion it's impossible for the bottle to get ejected on even the roughest descents.Where the bottle cage sits on the bike is also important. Most modern bottle cages have machined eyelets to attach them to the frame via mounting bolts included with the bike, though the degree of height adjustability is different for each.
