It was initially scheduled for publication in 2018, 60 years after the death of its first musical editor, Ralph Vaughan Williams. I have a set of CDs with the "Complete New English Hymnal" on (there are about 24) and I follow them in my book when playing the CDs (Happy Days).

A few hymns (eg, It came upon the midnight clear) are now in different sections from some earlier collections. However much of the preface etc includes the info in the original edition, and it appears most of the hymn tunes are there. The Revised English Hymnal is a revision and consolidation of the whole English Hymnal tradition, from 1906 to today. The New English Hymnal inherits much music from the original 1906 English Hymnal, its 1933 revision, and the 1975 supplement English Praise, although a few hymns are re-written or dropped in favor of newly added hymns.

In addition a new Appendix will provide cross references across the whole collection of hymns that are suitable for use on occasions or in ways outside the structured sections of the book. A supplement, New English Praise, [3] was published in 2006 containing additional liturgical material, canticle settings, psalm settings and plainchant accompaniments.
