Description

Following the success of Sacred Gin, Sacred Spirits has expanded its range to include other spirits and liqueurs. This includes vodka, whisky, vermouth, and aperitifs, all crafted with the same attention to detail and quality as their flagship gin. The distillery also experiments with limited edition releases and unique flavour profiles, catering to a broad range of tastes and preferences.

Despite its relatively small size, Sacred Spirits has garnered international recognition, winning awards and accolades for its products. The distillery’s innovative approach and the quality of its spirits have placed it firmly on the map in the competitive world of artisanal spirits. This bright, citrus-led gin hails from the reliably good Salcombe Distilling Co in Devon. It’s named after Start Point lighthouse, which marked the beginning of voyages for the 19th century fruit schooners, which sailed from Salcombe, trading exotic fruit and spices from the West Indies and Azores. Grapefruit, lemon and lime add refreshing citrus notes to the classic juniper palate, which also shows fiery spice. Perfect for a G&T. Alc 44% For over ten years Sacred was based in the founders’ home but in 2020 the distillery moved into a beautiful new location based in an early Victorian building on Highgate High Street where it continues to produce its award-winning spirits and hosts two events each month. During a Distillery Visit, guests will enjoy a G&T as they listen to a short history of gin and a demonstration of Sacred’s unique distillation method, followed by a tutored tasting of eight of Sacred’s award-winning spirits. Sacred Spirits maintains a strong connection with its local community in Highgate and the broader spirits community. The distillery hosts tastings and tours, offering enthusiasts a chance to learn about the craft of distillation and the specifics of their production process. These experiences help demystify the world of spirits and foster a deeper appreciation for artisanal distilling. Small is Beautiful: Sacred Gin" (PDF). Imbibe. November 2009. But the proliferation of ‘craft gins’ has given some producers cause for concern. Jake Burger and Ged Feltham launched their Portobello Road Gin in 2011 (see below). ‘We were certainly fortuitous in terms of timing,’ says Burger, ‘I think we’d spotted the potential for gin’s growth as a category relatively early – but perhaps we hadn’t expected it to rise quite as meteorically as it did.’

Sacred Gin begins with a gentle terpy aroma. Quiet, but pine forward juniper, with woody hints suggesting that some of that terpene aroma could be coming from frankincense as well. Gentle floral and grapefruit zest aromas hint at the edges as well. A captivating, and in subtle ways, unusual nose. a b "List of bars and restaurants serving Sacred Spirits". Sacred Spirits Company. Using a complex triple-distillation technique, Hepple is a finely crafted gin with distinctive, fresh aromas of Douglas fir. These are followed by a luscious, silky palate with herbaceous notes, plenty of pine and citrus freshness, then a deliciously lingering finish. Makes a great Martini. The idea of entrepreneurial, ambitious young folk starting up their own companies, making products, often in fairly humble settings (garages, bedrooms, sheds) and pouring their energies and time into those brands – perhaps even taking on the big companies to a degree – well that’s a story as old as time and people certainly warm to that type of tale.’ a b Gerrard, Neil (5 February 2010). Fans of Gin and Tonic will appreciate the way that subtle frankincense kissed aroma seems perfectly complemented by Tonic Water. The less sweet, the better with Sacred Gin in my opinion, because it seems to add perceptible sweetness just from it’s botanical presence.

For both Lowe and Burger, what’s inside the bottle is more important than what words are used on the label. Quality is key. Sacred Vodka is 40% ABV. It is a wholly redistilled flavoured vodka using 7 botanicals including: Cubeb, Angelica Root, Nutmeg, and Frankincense. o describe Portobello Road as a craft gin. ‘Craft is a word I try not to use these days as it has become so ubiquitous, and has been so misappropriated in the drinks world, as to be relatively meaningless,’ he explains.Sacred Gin is a beautiful, well designed gin that showcases all of the best qualities that can be achieved through Ian Hart’s distilling methods. The advantages of the botanicals chosen and the aromas/flavors derived from them shows that he’s definitely on to something here. However, it’s in combination that they really rise to the occasion. Sacred Gin is distilled differently than many gins. Each botanical is distilled individually in a high-pressure/low-temperature vacuum still. The distillates are then blended to create the final product. Proponents of vacuum still say that not heating the botanicals during distillation creates a brighter, more flavorful final product.
