Can You Really Turn a Jigsaw into a Massage Gun? Best Pro-Grade Massage Gun: Therabody Gen5 Theragun Pro Professional athletes use percussion therapy to improve performance and recovery. Why wouldn't you?

Theragun PRO - 5th Gen — RecoverFit

Massage guns, also known as percussive therapy devices, help relax and soothe sore muscles, whether you’re an athlete or just hunching over a desk all day. Theraguns (made by Therabody) tend to be some of the most popular. We’ve tested and like the entire range, but they’re expensive. There are plenty of Theragun alternatives out there for hundreds of dollars less. In this guide, you’ll find a mix of both for all budgets—plus helpful information from a physical therapist and athletic trainer on how these devices can help our bodies. These are our favorite massage guns. Ben Emminger What's Less Than Ideal About the 5th Generation Theragun Pro? Therabody only includes one battery with the device.

All the great things about the Theragun PRO (4th Gen) can still be found in the new 5th generation model. You can continue to get deep percussive therapy with Theragun’s 16 mm amplitude and a customisable speed range of 1,750 to 2,400 PPMs (percussion per minute). To allow you to personalize the treatment to your exact needs, six interchangeable head attachments are included with both versions. The Cone attachment was replaced in favour of the Micro-Point attachment. Other than that, the attachments for both models are as follows:

All over massage — treat over 80% of your body without strain on the wrist, hands or arms using the rotating arm that has 4 unique positions and patented, ergonomic, Theragun triangle multi-grip design But comparing it to its predecessor, it becomes clear that so does the Theragun PRO (4th Gen). In fact, if you are a physical therapist or want to share the device with your teammates, you are better off with the older version and its two batteries, instead of buying an additional one for the already more expensive newer model. The new carrying case isn't as nice as what I've seen from other competitors—you can typically expect slots specifically for each attachment, but Therabody just has a separate soft case for the attachments so you have to carry two cloth cases. It's no dealbreaker, but you'd expect a nicer solution at this price. I suggest saving some cash and going with the fourth-generation Theragun Pro, which will net you nearly all the same benefits.

As for portability, the Theragun Pro weighs 2.9 pounds and comes with a soft carrying/storage case. It’s a bit too large to toss in my softball bag for a scrimmage, but if I were to travel to a tournament or plan a weekend trip filled with activity, it would be trouble to bring along. Theragun Pro (Gen 5) review: Performance Sharper Image's Powerboost Pro+ is my favorite of the brand's several great massage guns. It uses heat, like the Gravity, but its temperature attachment also includes cold therapy, going from 38 degrees to 115 degrees. You can use this one for just the heat and cold, or with pulsations like any other percussive attachment. It has five other heads, and they're all made from a nice hard silicone. The Pro+ is one of the quieter models in this guide too. It gets louder as you increase the speed, but even then it's not blaring. It has a charging stand, which is convenient. The following are circumstances where the potential risks may outweigh the benefits. Consult a medical professional before use. Therabody released their all-new Theragun PRO (5th Gen) in late 2022 as an upgrade to the previous 4th generation model that was launched in mid-2020. The company says this massager uses Rhythm Therapy based on vibroacoustic science and offers a wider frequency range and lower amplitude than other massage guns. It claims this can " help nourish the body’s parasympathetic mode" to promote rest or increase energy, depending on which function you choose. I can't say if it was vibroacoustically soothing me to sleep, and its highest level isn't as powerful as others in this guide, but I liked using it for day-to-day needs. There's an app you can use for iPhones (Android is apparently on the way) to follow along with guided massage sessions.

If you are an existing Theragun PRO (4th Gen) owner, the minor upgrades to the new 5th gen model do not really warrant buying it as these massage guns can be quite an investment. Another great feature that was kept in the 5th Gen model is the removable and swappable batteries in the Theragun PRO. At the push of a button, you are able to easily remove the battery and swap it out for another. This also makes the batteries easy to replace if there are any battery malfunctions or issues when the device is no longer covered by the warranty.

The attachments are easy to swap out with a tug on whatever attachment is currently in place. In addition to the Theragun Pro’s case, you’ll also get a dedicated storage pouch for keeping the attachments all in one place. Certain attachments even feature their own covers to ensure the materials don’t get damaged. Theragun Pro (Gen 5) review: Battery life

The best massage gun for athletes just got better

Quiet treatment — 20% quieter than the 4th Generation Theragun PRO, with a redesigned proprietary brushless motor Starting at 1,750 percussions per minute (ppm), both version can go up to 2,400 ppm on the higher end. In total, there are five built-in speed levels, all available at the push of a button: However, if this is your first time getting a Theragun PRO, depending on the current price and promotion, you can consider the new 5th generation model instead and get access to the newest features available. Recently, Therabody unveiled a slew of new products and upgrades, including some key overhauls to the Pro profile. Boasting a quieter motor, new monitor and additional features, this new fifth-gen version is poised to be the best massage gun the consumer market has seen to date. But are all these upgrades worth the higher price tag (the elevation of which is another commonplace note when it comes to Therabody products)?
