The flashbacks going back to when they first met was what I was living for as you got to experience the start of their friendship that soon turned into something bigger, something that was unavoidable. Over the past few days I’ve been seeing posts for LYRICAL by Bea Paige, and after reading the blurb I just knew I had to read this trilogy. When anyones being blackmailed why do they blindly do as they’re told as if the other person will follow through on their end of the deal. If you are looking for a new and exciting series to start that is intriguing, different and spicy – then pick this one up for sure. Having to deal with so many horrible men in her life only kind of makes up for some of her absolutely asinine behaviors or words.

Characters are diverse and pretty deep and this Step up meets The God Father like story is exactly what I was hoping it would be. Lyrical is book two of this dark gang romance, featuring gangsters who can dance, and deals with adult themes and some subjects you may find upsetting. It’s more that I had issue with the stupid manipulations that get the group into the mess that leads to a separation between them all for a few years. But this author gives us her version, one that is completely different and in a way that screams BETTER!Let's all feel bad for Pen, who literally has no redeeming qualities whatsoever other than carrying for her little sister. I managed to pick this up when it was free, and had it on my TRB for a while and honestly, I wish I'd picked it up sooner. Some of that is forgivable because this is the first book in a series and it makes sense to save things to reveal and develop in later books.

pretty addictive, and though it may be a completely ridiculous storyline, it was an ENJOYABLE ridiculous storyline. However, since the rest of this book is so similar to a lot of other RH books, I think more of a focus on the dance plot rather than the gang plot would have made this stand out more. And then worse for poor Pen here it seems she’s being personally tormented in some horrible and cruel ways by all the men in her life. I didn’t really hate the pov switch as much as I hated how the chapter featuring the ‘now’ was all about the MCs being enemies and separated by betrayal and lies. Content and Trigger Warnings: Abuse on and off the page, death, gun violence, sexual assault, drug and alcohol use, violence and dubious activities. I mean okay, Xeno is like the lider of the group, but if the guys really love her, how are they so okay with that ultimatum? And while the first book is the tamest of them all, it’s in Lyrical, book two that things start to heat up.

You better prepare yourself, if your one to go up against pen then be assured she will put you back into your place. And in the flashbacks there's that part when Xeno fucks his latest girlfriend near the baysement they hang and she hears all of that, and gets a little hurt. There were some things not disclose properly in the book but I hope to get that clarify while I read book 2. I also really didn't care for the major villain being a closeted gay or bi man who acts cruelly towards Pen because she catches him with a man.Bea Paige lives a very secretive life in London… she likes red wine and Haribo’s (preferably together) and occasionally swings around poles when the mood takes her. There were times where I just wanted to give her a hug and then there were other times where I wanted to make her see what was happening. Before I knew it, the seconds, minutes and hours went by and I become so absorbed in these characters story that I didn’t want it to end. She "hated" them, wanted them gone, but every time they talked or flirted with other girls IN FRONT OF HER (assholes, super mature) she would get angry and had to control herself not to punch the girl they were with.

I’m newer to the Bea Paige fandom, and with books like Freestyle I want to slap myself for taking so long to discover her. This book ends on a cliffhanger but all the books are completed so you don’t have to wait to see what happens! It is a RH romance (totally my favorite genre right now) has such good rates and i loved the synopsis, sounded so interesting. This one really sets us up with the back story and where Pen is at now with the convergence of her past and present.
