Description

A beautifully observed, tender love story with characters you really care about…a bit like Normal People . We really get to know the characters through the timeline from when they were teenagers to then adults and this definitely helped with building a connection. Will and Rosie go to the same high school but haven’t talked until one night at a bonfire where he inexplicably opens up to her.

I don’t start with character maps or anything like that, although sometimes I wonder if that would be easier. Se la trama di per sé non sembra avere nulla (o quasi) di originale, la scrittura è però ben riuscita, diretta e dolce al tempo stesso. I think, what bothered me is that I didn’t feel a strong enough connection between the two main protagonists, so the *overt, over the top* showcasing of affection just felt very forced. They fall for each other as teenagers; nineties music, sideways glances, sunsets and bonfires and talking late into the night. What have you found to be the most rewarding, and most challenging, aspects of getting your novel published?

Thirty years after the band’s dramatic and mysterious breakup, its biggest hit is experiencing a resurgence of popularity. After graduating with a degree in Fine Art from The University of Oxford, she began a career in publishing, writing about books by day but penning her own by night, on trains, and in the light of the early mornings. And because I often get asked to compare books, I would say that if you liked Normal People, One Day and The Rachel Incident, this one is for you. Sure, there’s a “love story” at the core of this one, with a main “couple” that it’s pretty much impossible NOT to root for (more on this later), but there is actually so much more to the story than that. And yet, one midnight conversation at the Winters’ house leaves Rosie noticing Will as much as he's been noticing her.And I was interested in the idea of ‘the one that got away’ – but what if they never actually got away? I absolutely adored Talking at Night … A gorgeous story of first love, loss, and the people who stick to your ribs, it should be on everyone’s must-read list.

I adored We All Want Impossible Things, a gorgeous novel by Catherine Newman that is somehow about death but also life, and all the sadness and undeniable joy that goes with it. Es könnte eine Schulromanze mit Hindernissen sein und am Ende überstehen sie alle Widrigkeiten ihres jungen Lebens.Seriously if I were Will I’d have a hard time believing she’d stay with me forever after everything.

Fragt man mich nach Liebesgeschichten, bei Along the way, we meet a cast of keenly observed characters, from Will’s loving grandma, who acts as a surrogate mother after his own deserts him, to Rosie’s emotionally icy mother, who makes it clear she has high expectations for her only daughter. But just as they start to acknowledge their feelings, something will happen on Will’s birthday which will be the thing that both tears them apart, and bonds them forever. There is love, yes, but also family, friendship, parental expectations, unrequited longing, missed opportunities, regret, tragedy, death, etc…and a roller coaster ride of feelings and emotions both heavy-hitting as well as lighthearted. It’s easily become my favourite 5star read of this year it was so beautiful, raw, honest and soul destroying but in a good way, it is an amazing perception of many reps from grief, OCD, depression, suicide, LGBTQ, Loss, cancer, honestly I could go on because it had everything and it was just stunning lyrical and I didn’t want the story to stop I felt apart of Rosie and Wills life by the end of you feel true love doesn’t exist I suggest you pick this up it’s just an honest in-site to how reality affects us day to day and how time doesn’t slow down for us or wait around it’s beautiful and I can’t quiet believe it’s Claire’s only Novel I hope she gives us more! Compelling and propulsive, Talking at Night is an achingly beautiful novel about the people in our lives who change us irrevocably and who we will always carry with us, no matter what. British author Daverley follows a young man and woman through decades of their lives as they experience love, tragedy, and heartache.
