Some pictures have been adjusted slightly to depict as close as to what is seen in real life. The distance of the light from the door is 4.6m. There is also a white auxiliary LED that has a high colour rendering index (CRI ≥ 90), a colour temperature of 4500 K and provides an output of 35 lumens. The high CRI means the beam resembles that of morning sunlight, making colours appear more clearly to the human eye and also reducing eye strain, which makes this mode perfect for night reading. The colour temperature refers to the colour of the beam, which is a neutral to warm light.

The Nitecore HC65 v2 headlamp takes everything we love about the Nitecore HC65 and makes it brighter, easier to use and faster to charge. It increases the max output to 1750 lumen, reaching up to 180 yards. Its 100° degree wide angle flood beam covers your entire field of vision. The HC65 v2 retains the auxiliary red light for hunting, insect repelling, or low light tactics - as well as the high cri secondary LED for low light reading, and color rendering. This makes the HC65 v2 an ideal headlamp for camping, running, trekking, biking, or any outdoor activities. Handily, the housing can be tilted up or down to allow for 180 degree pivoting and it will hold in its position securely without shifting as well. The Modes Like with many flashlights, the HC65v2 uses its own dedicated UI. But there are a few nice features that makes it pretty useful, as long as you can remember what they are :–) Available modes: Measurements were taken indoors at 5 meters with a professional Hagner E4-X Lux Meter. Measurements were taken 30 seconds after turn on. Ultra Low was too low to measure at 5 meters. These are measured candelas. ModeFor Amp readings, I use a Fluke 77III DM, and the readings are taken at turn on. For higher amps, I now use a Fluke 325 True RMS clamp meter. For microamps, I use a cheap DMM with an easy-to-use micro amp setting. To the right of the main light there is a red auxiliary LED that offers a constant red output with high/low setting and a red flashing setting. Red light preserves your night vision and is good for wildlife observation, astronomy and night photography.

After the battery is installed and the cap is closed, the BLUE light indicator will blink out the current battery voltage. Alternatively, when charging the battery, 1/2 Press the switch and the BLUE light indicator will blink out the current battery voltage as well.

The High CRI AUX LED in the Special mode group is also tested, and it started at around 36 lumens. After 29 hours and 54 minutes, the output started to slowly decline till it reached 8 lumens after 32 hours and 58 minutes. At this point, I think I turned the light off manually. (Specs: 20h) However, as mentioned earlier, we look forward to the day that Nitecore finds a way to incorporate an additional option of activating both the main LED (XM-L2) and auxiliary white light (High CRI) to get the best of both worlds (“flood” and “throw”). That certainly would help make the HC65 – the best all-rounded headlamp available. In addition, using a newer and more “throwy” LED like a XP-L HI would help get rid of most (if not all) of the tint shift. For flashlights that are intended to use on a daily basis (EDC) and for possibly a long period of time, form factor is extremely important. Press – 1/2 Press to mode change (light cycles through RED Light & RED Caution Light [blinking RED light]). Switching ON and OFF is done by the electronic switch on the right side of the light, so no momentary activation is possible.

The HC65 V2 features three light sources including the primary white light, an auxiliary red light and a high CRI auxiliary white light. The red light can effectively protect night vision and is ideal for watching wildlife, stargazing, emergency use and night photography. The warm CRI>90 white light is suitable for short range illumination and resembles the warmth of sunlight, giving a sharp visual whilst reducing eye strain. Nitecore has a serious lineup of headlamps, including some L-shape (or right-angle) lamps. But today we’re reviewing the HC65 v2, which is the second version of the HC65. The original HC65 used a CREE XM-L2 LED with a total of 1000 lumens and 3,000 cd. And the HC65 v2 was upgraded to a Luminus SST40 LED with a max output of 1750 lumens and 7,000 cd. That’s definitely an upgrade. Been looking for a outstanding headlamp for years and years and with these headlamps I finally found one. Awesome clear easy to use amazing lights. Medium was very stable, and started at 278 lumens, and ran for 6 hours and 12 minutes when it dropped to 50 lumens. At 6h and 56 minutes, the light dropped to 1 lumen. Again I stopped the runtime before it turned off completely. (Specs: 6h)The Nitecore HC65 V2 is a rechargeable LED head torch offering triple light sources that include a main white LED output as well as an auxiliary white light and a red light output.
