Certain drugs and anesthetic agents may produce in-vitro inhibition of the PCHE activity. Therefore, it is recommended that blood specimens be drawn 24 to 48 hours post-operatively on those patients who have experienced prolonged apnea after surgery. Place Denfert-Rochereau, previously known as Place d'Enfer, is a public square located in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, France, in the Montparnasse district, at the intersection of the boulevards Raspail, Arago, and Saint-Jacques, and the avenues René Coty, Général Leclerc, and Denfert-Rochereau [ fr], as well as the streets Froidevaux, Victor-Considérant and de Grancey. It is one of the largest and most important squares on the left bank of the Seine. A national hero, Denfert-Rochereau was elected to the National Assembly as a député. There he supported Léon Gambetta's policies. He died in Versailles in 1878, and was buried near his spouse in the Montbéliard Cemetery.

A small number of individuals (<1% of the population) have been shown to have genetic variants of the enzyme, and therefore, cannot metabolize the muscle relaxants succinylcholine and mivacurium and experience prolonged apnea. These individuals generally have low levels of PCHE, which is not inhibited by dibucaine or fluoride. These individuals are either homozygotes or compound heterozygotes for an atypical gene controlling PCHE. Roche grew up outside of Chicago, Illinois. He received his bachelor's degree in Economics and Japanese Studies from Illinois State University in 1985 and a J.D. degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1988. The first part of the name is identical in pronunciation to its former name of Place d'Enfer ("Place of Hell"). It is the location of the Barrière d’Enfer, a gate built for the collection of taxation as part of the Wall of the Farmers-General; the gate was built between 1784 and 1788 and is one of only four of the 55 gates with any surviving remains.
