When I use my EQ settings and switch it ON / OFF it sounds like somebody close the door in my ears. Small tweak but the difference is significant. I had tried more harsh sounding recordings with stronger highs and they were not ear piercing to me (only if I raised the EQ's db then it start hurting my ears.) Again, that is the setting that works for me well, I am sure others might tweak it even further. I don’t find them clamping nor do they apply too much pressure on my jaws (though my partner found them a little clamping, she has a smaller head than me). Long term sessions are no issue for me. Denon’s latest premium headphones are once again attracting fans of this underrated part of the audio system with its great sound and aesthetics. Read our Denon AH-D7200 Review below.

Denon AH-D7200 Reference Over Ear Headphones - HiFix

Not only a personal favourite of mine, the Denon D2000/5000/7000 had a loyal fanbase that worshipped them. There were even a few successful businesses that exclusively carried out modifications and upgrades to them. Rivals do offer a more transparent and accurate performance, though, which stops the Denon flagship headphones from reaching full five stars.

Denon’s engineers designed this new model from the ground up, with two goals in mind: supreme sound quality, and ultimate comfort. These drivers are made from a nanofiber material - a material that was chosen for its rigidity and low mass. They are mounted onto custom-made resin baffles, designed to eliminate all vibrations being transferred to the cup. This can leaks some sound but it offers great passive isolation, shutting out quite a bit of external noise. The term “Free edge” refers to the physical edge of the driver itself, which does away with the traditional rubber surround that a driver usually employs. AH-D7200 has a 6.3mm Single Ended connector o their long cable, so it is recommended to pair them with desktop DAC/AMPs like Singxer SDA-2, Soundaware A1X PRO, Rebel Audio Rebel AMP, or the AAdac from Audio Analogue.

Denon AH-D7200 is the flagship Dynamic Headphone for Bassheads made by Denon. It is priced at 700 USD, and it will be compared to Beyerdynamic Amiron, Sennheiser HD660S, Dan Clark Aeon Flow, and Harmonic Dyne Zeus. So I’ve not really had many Denon cans, I’ve had more Fostex cans. Just didn’t happen but I’m so glad and pleased I got these beauties. The pads are incredibly soft and considering they're made from memory foam, they'll likely get more comfortable over time. Even for my larger ears, the pads only lightly touch the outside of my ears. The B&W P9s may have an exuberant low-end, but they handle rhythm and dynamics with greater accuracy and control. They’ve got more punch. And they get across the true intent of a song more faithfully than the Denons. The 2nd EQ I am sharing here is my own after few days of playing with settings and trying them on different genres of music and sound. The idea behind it is to make them sound less dark, open them up little bit and make them sound close to the flagship the D9200. I am sure you can achieve even better sound if you havent already. In that case please DO SHARE your EQ settings with us. If you try these settings I created and then try to turn OFF / ON the EQ you will see the quite pleasant difference. Its like somebody opens them up, I like this result a lot. But again please somebody improve this further I would be very interested.Denon headphones have been described by many as some of the finest over-ear dynamic headphones on the planet. Go here for photos and more subjective stuff: http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/denon-d7200-new-flagship.2701/ The ear pads are a little firm but I find them very comfortable, they are also of high quality too.

Mids and vocals are also very good but I would personally like a little more meat to the mids and a little more body to voices. Despite only being supplied with a 6.35mm cable, the AH-D7200 is surprisingly easy to drive, and they don't require heavy amplification. Using an adapter, even a humble smartphone can drive the headphone to sufficient levels. It would have been nice to see an option of a 3.5mm cable included as well, for some added flexibility. Hey guys, I have tried to play with the EQ for the Denon D7200. I had issues to actually install and run the Equalizer APO for my new DAC but it was down to the missing drivers. The APO is a great software to EQ the whole system rather than just music player or other software. It can enable by itself as soon as you turn on your computer, great stuff. Finally I will say, I really like the fact that this can adopts 2x female 3.5mm ports for the cable. A superb choice, cable rolling is great and easy. Yay!This comes across with John Williams scores, too. Rey’s Theme from Star Wars: The Force Awakens sounds delicate and harmonious through the Denons. But the B&Ws time better, and give you a better sense of the song – it’s more involving. Verdict Anyway, please try them, tweak them, improve them and do not forget to share it. See if you turn these settings ON / OFF how much difference that makes. Like the older flagships from Denon, the headband assembly uses two metal rods for adjustment on each side. These rods have grooves running down the length of each side, which do a great job at keeping the shape and size of the headphones. The good news doesn’t end there, either. The headband isn’t just some plastic strap - it’s solid aluminium, with both natural sheepskin leather on the outside, and stitched engineered leather on the inside. There’s a smoothness to the Denon AH-D7200s’ sound that will leave you listening for hours without getting fatigued. That smoothness does come at the expense of total transparency and punch, but it’s a balance we can imagine many getting along with.

I added a wood lacquer coating for better protection against accidental scratches... they look a bit darker now but I like it this way. I will post some photos after I find ideal headband cover. The construction seems to be all metal, wood and leather. I cannot see or feel plastic anywhere, I could be wrong though. The highs are fantastic, I don’t find them too harsh or too bright. The level of clarity and detail offered by these cans are very high. They are very resolving with superb definition, very insightful. They are definitely not veiled or muddy sounding. I don’t find them fatiguing either. The lows on the AH-D7200 are exceptional. It has rumble, sub bass and superb depth and extension. The impact and slam of the bass is excellent, I don’t find it overpowering the other frequencies. Full sounding with great speed too, that is hard to find. Oh, in case you were wondering: The AH-D7200 doesn’t fold, or flatten. And why should they? They look spectacular and should be sitting proudly on your shelf, not stored away in a bag somewhere. I used EQ on the D7200 to make them just slightly brighter and aiming to get closer to the D9200 sound with them. Cant wait to compare these two.
