I have nothing but contempt for men who are found to be violent towards their wives", Jack says firmly. with a delicious complicated homemade dinner made to PERFECTION by Grace, under Jack's need for PERFECTION. it's a little silly, but it is indeed a sort of modern take on those old gothic romance novels or, again, a lifetime movie: a gullible young ingenue is led astray by a handsome but irredeemably wicked man with sadistic inclinations, and how she eventually rises up and triumphs over his murderous ass. In the beginning, I was intrigued by the underlying sense of menace that lurked around the dinner party scene at the start of the novel. Things get off to a bad start at the wedding when Millie falls down the stairs leading to the registration office.

Grace I thought at times was shallow, but the more I read the more I could understand her situation.Lead character, Grace, must be THE most gullible woman ever to walk the planet, and characterless Jack is about as evil as Mr Bean!

The last few lines of this story sent shivers down my spine and I had tears in my eyes as I sat staring at the very last page. BUT I get the whole syndrome, the awful cycle that kicks in within a marriage of THIS kind, so she’s forgiven indeed. But when I knelt down beside her and found her body cold and rigid, I thought about the terrible death she must have endured. Grace's parents want to find alternate living accommodations for Millie as they want to be free to travel. She didn’t expect to be swept off her feet by the charismatic Jack Angel, a chivalrous Prince Charming who dotes on Millie as much as he seems to love Grace. Watching them together, it's obvious that Jack is out to impress Rufus, which means it's important I win Esther round. Between the breakneck pacing and the emotional nature of the read (Grace's love for her sister with Down's syndrome is particularly heart-wrenching), my eyes were glued to the pages.

At first, as I looked down at her little body lying on the floor, I thought the drugs he had given me had been playing with my mind, because I was still feeling woozy. She takes the flight to Thailand alone, telling everyone they know that Jack urged her to take their vacation so he could spend a few days finishing up the court case he had just lost. Disturbed is what you will feel with much of this book, don't be surprised if your mouth pops open (watch out for fruit flies at that point). descriptions of the characters-- not only Jack and Grace, the two main characters who get married after a short courting period. While I can’t say I loved this one, I liked it enough to consider reading another book from this author.

Brilliant, chilling, scary and unputdownable’ Lesley Pearse, bestselling author of Deception --This text refers to the paperback edition. Grace and Millie have presented the perfect situation because their parents are not very involved in their lives. with friends, so he’s forced to be social with his wife, who has to pretend to love him lest people find out she’s married to an abusive idiot.

Brandie's review was the first time I noticed this book and she made me completely curious about it.

It must seem strange that these are often kept shut during the day, but as Jack tells anyone who asks, with a job like his, good security is one of his priorities. Ok, so what’s the real story of this relationship and why is Grace’s sister coming to live with them?
