I think it would be fun to have students pick a topic that interests them and add a page to the book from the perspective of the world village. It is important for students to be exposed to the lives of people different from themselves to help them develop a global perspective. I felt like I was really able to gain insightful knowledge on the Earth's population without feeling like I was reading a textbook. If you keep these few simple (and most of them, obvious) rules in mind, speaking in another country and meeting people from another culture is an enriching experience.Further to this, it highlights the concept of global citizenship, tolerance whilst simultaneously exposing children to information texts. I could definitely integrate "If the World Were a Village: A Book about the World's People" with Math and Social Studies instruction. If the World Were a Village is part of CitizenKid: A collection of books that inform children about the world and inspire them to be better global citizens. This book (an updated version to reflect the current population) would be great to teach a variety of skills in social studies and math. With chapters focusing on nationalities, languages, religion, food, environment, eduction, money and much more, this book provokes thought and elicits questions.
