I liked that Emma was a complicated character, and both she and Angela, in particular, were multi-layered and real feeling which you don't always get with these type of procedural books that focus more on plot than characterization. Schweigart keeps listeners on the edge of their seat . . . Recommended for readers of Michael Connelly, David Baldacci’s “Memory Man” series, and T. Jefferson Parker.” Minnie Flynn had suffered a loss that most of us could not bear. Maybe she shared life on her small Cumbrian farm with a series of foster kids to fill that need. But she took a special shine to young Daniel, and, despite the mayhem he causes when he comes under her care, he takes a shining to her. Although there is no romance involved, this is a very, very powerful love story. You will need tissues. Daniel was a lot to handle as a kid. Living with a junkie for a mother he was subjected to more than the usual sorts of childhood challenges. Most five-year-olds are not beaten up by their mother’s low-life boyfriend, or bear witness to low behavior of many sorts. No wonder he was so angry. And then the state decides that his mother is not fit to keep her son and Daniel begins the grand tour of foster homes. It would have taken someone with the patience of a saint to cope with his rage. And while Minnie does indeed have a breaking point, it is she, ultimately, who offers Daniel a safe haven, not only from the world, but from himself. She is one of those parental sorts who actually can set boundaries. She is one who can see the potential in Daniel beneath the maelstrom. And it is she who changes the direction of his life. The Guilty review: a psychological thriller showcase forJake The Guilty review: a psychological thriller showcase forJake

He is trying his best to put the puzzling pieces together and find the connection between an old murder scene and a new crime. He das to figure out who the real killer is before it's too late!? But he’s still “the director of Training Day,” as if the last 20 years never happened. For once, though, that feels appropriate: His new Netflix movie The Guilty is an unexpected companion piece to his past police stories. It’s a cop-on-the-edge thriller where the cop, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, is confined to just a couple of rooms. The worst part? There is actually a reader's guide!!!! I admit, it fooled me - I thought "oh, a reader's guide, yes, it seems like a boring book, but it certainly will get better - it has a reader's guide". Ok, that's my bad. But I learned my lesson - never again will I be fooled by a publisher like that! This book is exactly what I wanted from a psychological thriller, and utterly unpredictable! The story was intense from the very beginning, and I ended up binging the audio because I couldn’t put it down without knowing what happened! Some of the writing is clunky and burdened with a little too much detail on the wrong areas, and the description of a character's face being "shaped like a melon seed" had me laughing out loud, which I'm sure wasn't intended. Was it broad at the forehead with a pointy chin.....like an alien, or the other way round? Either way it's clumsy and makes for a lovely mental picture. Surely "heart-shaped" would have been better. I found the ending quite predictable but will say no more than that. This novel started well. There was action and suspense! Not to mention humor and comic relief to break up the tension. I was intrigued and excited to see where the story would go. I wanted to know what happened to Cal. What traumatic experience caused him to suppress his memory? Unfortunately, somewhere around the 35%-40% mark, I kind of lost interest. The story lost its momentum and started to drag. Also, the characters started to feel one-dimensional. Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for my audio ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

Chris Evans’ Cringey ‘Pain Hustlers’ Rap Is Inspired By a Real Rap Video Made By Ex-Pharma Executives Jasmine Moretti believes the prophecy that herself or her twin will not live to their 30th birthday, could it possibly be her brother who killed her though?? Too soon for fictional active shooters in the United States. Really? Who thought that was a good storyline? Yes, it was in the synopsis. I opened my mind to a possible think tank in the mix.I've been listening to a lot of mystery/thrillers narrated by feminine sounding narrators. When I first listened to The Guilty One? I was delighted to hear the narrators voice! A masculine voice, and so fitting to the speech mannerisms of the MC. Stressed by the situation but seemingly enlivened by the opportunity to play cop again, Joe makes a variety of calls to different branches of law enforcement while researching the case, trying to help the woman from his desk. The Guilty is a single-location thriller; outside of a few establishing shots and brief fades into fuzzy imagery, it stays in the call center with Joe. Fuqua got his start in music videos, and it’s easy to imagine a version of this movie from earlier in his career relying heavily on fast cuts, impressionistic lighting, and dramatic angles to juice the limited action. Though there’s a little of that here, Fuqua more often settles down his style in the process of sustaining the material over a 90-minute runtime. As Gyllenhaal becomes more frenzied, the movie uses fewer cuts — some of its tensest climactic scenes play out in extended static shots of the actor’s face.
