The social and personal problems found their way into the music and started to change the Blues on a profound level. The eleven separate records which compose "Blue Guitars" could as well stand on their own; in combination, however, they provide a journey through the different epochs of the Blues, showing the various components that have been added to the original African Blues over time, the changes in instrumentation, style, lyrical expression and thematic implications.

audio albums and a DVD comes with a 72-page hardback book including more than 30 paintings, photos, lyrics and an interview with Chris Rea.The Blue Guitar Collection - originally commissioned by the late Scott Chinery in the 1990s - stands as one of the most culturally significant collections of handmade musical instruments in the world.

As you'd expect, this guitar is available in red (Antique Cherry) just like Brian's own guitar but there are other options if you hanker for the design and tones but not this colour. All in all it was an environment, where it was only natural for the Blues to develop, and even though the instrumentation and the construction of the songs was still very different from what we now know as Blues, the basics were already there: the sadness, the strain, the burdens, the depression, the feeling of "blue" and – of course – the underlying musical structure. The album was reworkings of earlier tracks which suggest it Driving Home was an earlier track, but it's not on any of the previous albums. For every lover of good music and for all guitar aficionados in particular, Blue Guitars is an absolute must. One would expect that such an overabundance produced over a compacted period would no doubt end up being terribly repetitive in both scores and lyrics. Having played the BMG now for a couple of weeks I find the neck is just fine and have come to really like it. Usually with a new album, even a double, you listen, put it on in the car when travelling, listen again and it sinks in over a period of time. If two pickups are on and one is reverse phased, the resulting tone is minus the sonic elements that are shared by both pickups. When the other band members study their scores, Rea works on paintings that will serve as album covers.

Living conditions were hard, many African natives were taken captives and transported across the ocean to be sold as slaves, sometimes even betrayed by their own people, which is vividly depicted in the song "The King Who Sold His Own".He dedicated a month to each style and was writing and recording a song a day to try to cover it all.

Having used this guitar over a period of several months - most extensively during show work for "We Will Rock You" - we're happy to report that the tones available are not only unique but also very reminiscent of Brian's own. Again it was movement that was pushing the Blues into a new direction, movement upwards North to Chicago in the pursuit of jobs and a new life. The BMG definitely has its own unique thing going on – it’s nothing like a Strat, or Les Paul, or SG, or Tele (giving my generation away here). The maximum use of the sound potential of these woods is ensured by our innovative voicing process of the soundboard.Blue guitars have long been a popular choice for guitarists who want to stand out from the crowd with style. All the foundations of the trademark BM sound are present and correct, with construction, pickups and electronics faithfully reproducing the original's unique character and tonal versatility. I had often thought that it would be neat to get all the great portrait painters together to interpret the same subject and then see the differences among them. If you like Chris Rea, you will in all probability love the diversity of styles with the Chris Rea angle on it. Latin music may not be the most obvious direction to look for the Blues, still there were great influences from the African culture with slaves landing in Brazil, who influenced the Caribbeans from their own direction, Cuban guitar and some kind of trademark piano were added, creating a mix so different from Mississippi Blues, and yet, Bossa Nova Blues was a direction in its own right.
