The result is a beautifully complex and refined craft rum balanced with deep truffle flavours from our oak-smoked Pepper Dulse seaweed. With a shared passion for adventure, the sea and creating memorable rum experiences, The Tidal Rum is delighted to be collaborating with P&O Cruises to open the rum distillery on board its newest ship, Arvia which arrives in December 2022, where Golden Tide, a new rum will be distilled.

Four carefully chosen rums are enhanced by the unique characteristics of Pepper Dulse. The deep earthy truffle flavour helps to balance out the caramel toffee hues of the rum, enhancing the blend to create a more complex and refined drink. ON THE NOSE Arvia will join the P&O Cruises fleet in December 2022, her maiden voyage will be to the Canary Islands, followed by a winter season in the Caribbean. She will be the largest ship to sail from her home port of Barbados, offering guests a choice of holidays, ranging from 7 to 22 nights, with an overnight stay in Barbados and an extended call to Antigua on many holidays. She will join sister ship, Iona as one of the world’s most environmentally-friendly ships, fully powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Jersey-based brand Tidal Rum has teamed up with P&O Cruises to create the ‘world’s first’ rum distillery at sea. P&O partnered with Salcombe Distilling Co to launch the ‘first’ gin distillery at sea on cruise ship Iona The distillery will produce an island-inspired rum, in partnership with Tidal Rum, a brand created by founders of Shorts Boy Distillery Ben Clyde-Smith and Harry Coulthard. A golden aged rum blend, born in the Caribbean, slowly aged in oak casks and infused with rare marine botanicals gathered on Jersey’s full moon tides.

As the caramel and bitter orange fade away, the deep truffle flavour of Pepper Dulse is left, a reminder of the sea. Taste the Tide– Pepper Dulse OUR BOTANICAL Jersey has an exceptionally large tidal range (up to forty feet). This enables those who know where to look to forage, on foot, for ingredients that would normally require deep diving. This coupled with the unique microclimate provide the perfect conditions to access a sustainable supply of tidal botanicals, such as Pepper Dulse. After foraging a fresh batch of Pepper Dulse we sun dry, oak smoke and then infuse our bespoke blended rum with it . This gives Tidal Rum its unique flavour. Rum blending class: A unique experience which will take place in Anderson’s Bar on board Arvia, where a rum expert will show guests how to create their own delicious spirit with ingredients from the Caribbean and British coasts. A fun and hands-on session allowing guests to take home their own bottle of rum as a golden memory of their Caribbean holiday. Rum tasting class: A chance for guests to delve deeper into the world of fine rums. The on-board rum expert will guide guests through a special tasting session in Anderson’s Bar on board Arvia – home of Aurelia, the first rum still at sea. Sipping a variety of rums including Golden Tide and The Tidal Rum, guests will discover the story behind each one.Crafted from a blend of rums distilled in Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and the Dominican Republic, each aged in ex-bourbon white oak casks for between two and three years. This marvellous blend is then enhanced with an infusion of oak-smoked Pepper Dulse seaweed foraged from the tides of Jersey. The deep, earthy truffle taste of this sea botanical balances the rum beautifully, creating a complex and refined drink with layers of subtle, smoky coastal flavours. We are so delighted that following Iona’s on board gin distillery we are, once again, innovating with this first rum distillery at sea on Arvia which will be so fitting in the Caribbean sunshine.

We chose Pepper Dulse because of its intense moreish palate: surprising, mineral, earthy truffle, aromatic, subtle garlic and peppery An infusionist rum drink for the end of a long day, the start of a night of adventure, to share with friends or to warm the soul. Its smooth oak-finished rounded flavour warms, replenishes and evokes memories of the seaboard - reminding you of what life is all about. Our signature serve “ The Tidal” is a simple double measure of Tidal, soda and half a fresh lime squeezed in. Pepper Dulse (“osmundea pinnatifida”) is a little known Jersey delicacy. It can only be harvested seasonally (December-May) on spring tides. FLAVOURGolden Tide is an island-inspired liquid that captures the sense of adventure and excitement that the ocean brings. The new rum will be distilled exclusively for P&O Cruises on board Arvia whilst she sails in the Caribbean, and the recipe will be recreated on the mainland by The Tidal Rum. Made to an exclusive recipe, this sun-drenched spirit blends flavours of the region with marine botanicals from the British Isles to celebrate togetherness and the enchantment of travels to island shores.
