So I’m going to be completely honest here and say the big “secret” wasn’t a real humdinger for me and also when it came to the subplot regarding . . . . From the USA Today bestselling and Edgar-nominated author of Darling Rose Gold comes a dark, thrilling novel about two sisters--one trapped in the clutches of a cult, the other in a web of her own lies. This story has multiple POVs, timelines, and parts. The identity of one character does not get revealed until a good way through the book, which I found a little confusing. Sisters Natalie and Kit have been out of touch for the last six months with Kit having gone off to a private retreat known as Wisewood. Natalie has always looked out for Kit so when she gets a note from Kit she immediately heads out to Wisewood to find her sister not letting the remote setting and unwelcoming residents get in her way. I appreciated that the story had so much depth - Kirby is dealing with the anniversary of his sister's death. That is the underlying thread that weaves through the book, making it bigger than just three friends who get into a TON of boyish hijinks.

This Might Hurt by Stephanie Wrobel | Waterstones

Truthfully, some of the circumstances are difficult to read, so if you feel like you could be sensitive to any plot involving significant mental abuse, and at times physical danger, you may want to proceed with caution. These treatments are generally not recommended for people dealing with “secondary pain,” that is, pain that derives from cancer, fractures, muscle diseases, or infections. Wrobel has honed her writing style even more sharply since her strong debut novel…and is again delivering her readers a “ripped from the headlines” story. ThisMightHurt contains moments and characters recognizable to those familiar with the NXVIM cult and its downfall, although the twists and turns are all Wrobel’s own, and will leave readers guessing until the very end.” Kit has embraced this way of life and has come into her own at Wisewood, just like so many others before her.He looks me up and down, sneers a little. "With all due respect, what makes you think you"--he spits the word like it's a shit sandwich--"can get inside the mind of our man?" thought the process of how Kirby felt emotions was very relatable. A teen who loses loved ones will hurt the most and therefore do silly things. This Might Hurt has all the ingredients of a great mystery. Fun, creepy and incredibly fast-paced. A ridiculously wry and absorbing thriller' AMY STUART The way the events unfold is a little confusing. There are several narrators and several parts to this book. There is one narrator whose identity is unknown for quite some time. For me, it seemed like Wroebel was trying to infuse a twist into the narrative with the unknown narrator, but when it was revealed, it was just rather ho-hum.

The story is told through two timelines. I did enjoy the unexpected twists that happened. The final reveal wasn't what I was expecting, I was hoping for a bit more, but I'd say this book was pretty good, entertaining and worth the read. Okay, so this was not what I was expecting. My expectations were strangely met in a way I was not expecting. I just read this entire novel this afternoon, so I'm going to need a moment to process what I just read. What in the world did I just read???? This Might Hurt a Bit was so hilarious yet so sad that I couldn't wrap my head around it. I felt so bad for Kirby, not only for the worst thing that ever happened to him, but also for his hilariously terrible day. I mean, this story is so crazy that there's no way that this could be reality, but at the same time, it could be. This Might Hurt a Bit is like one of those crazy high school movies you might watch on Disney Channel, but with the language and the drugs. Needless to say, I did enjoy This Might Hurt a Bit exponentially more than I expected to. The worst day of his life is approaching, and Kirby is not ready for it. He's really not ready for it, and his parents want to talk to him about it, which might just set him over the line. So, instead, Kirby decides to cow paint with his two best friends, PJ and Jake. What starts as simply painting cows starts a chain reaction of events at school the next day, making it the second worst day of his life. When will Kirby get a break? In Doogie Horner's, This Might Hurt a Bit, follow the hilarious and nerving story of Kirby's ultimate second worst day ever.a b c d e "Ben Whishaw cast as lead in BBC Two's adaptation of This Is Going To Hurt with AMC co-producing". McNeilly, Claire (29 November 2021). "I was shot twice on stage and still bear the scars, says NI actress Josie Walker whose 'heart goes out' to Alec Baldwin movie victim's family". Belfast Telegraph . Retrieved 5 March 2022. This is a plot I will NEVER forget. It was unique, bizarre, uncomfortable, creepy and kept me guessing. In many ways you must suspend your disbelief to read this (usually a deal breaker for me), however, the story is so eerie and engrossing that I was consumed and curious from start to finish. The writing is excellent! Told in dual timelines and multiple narratives, the stories wove seamlessly together. I also found the dueling timelines in this book to be very confusing and distracting at times. I was actually more than a third of the way through the book before I realized who all of the characters were. If the intent was to include a surprise element, I don’t think that it was very successful. The events of This Might Hurt by Stephanie Wrobel take place predominantly at Wisewood, a fictional island retreat off the coast of Maine that purportedly focuses on self-improvement techniques and conquering one's inner fears. The concept of a mental health "retreat" is by no means foreign to Americans, and wellness tourism has grown into a multi-billion dollar industry globally. Given this, self-improvement retreats reminiscent of Wisewood in either form or function are not only conceivable but already among a range of available options for those on the quest for a transformative vacation experience. or 2.5 stars. I did not enjoy this. Much of it was unnecessarily confusing. A good mystery is one in which the reader thinks, “I didn’t see that coming, but this makes sense,” not that the author purposely was coy about who was telling the story and during what time. There is jumping from sister to sister, Natalie and Kit, a storyline that makes sense even if it leaps around in time, and another story that’s hard to read because it involves an appallingly psychologically abusive father. From the Sunday Times and USA Today bestselling author of Darling Rose Gold comes a dark, thrilling novel about two sisters—one trapped in the clutches of a cult, the other in a web of her own lies.
