Description

True Romance (released in the Philippines as Breakaway) [5] is a 1993 American romantic crime film directed by Tony Scott and written by Quentin Tarantino. It features an ensemble cast led by Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette, with Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, and Christopher Walken in supporting roles. Slater and Arquette portray newlyweds on the run from the Mafia after stealing a shipment of drugs. Larry Taylor then supplies a 7-minute appreciation/profile of Tony Scott and how his style evolved after this film. He ends up calling Man on Fire the most Tony Scott film. He admires True Romance’s energy and feels it might have been ahead of its time, maybe doing better financially if it had come out after Pulp Fiction. I’m not all too sure about that but then the film did seem to gain more recognition after that film was released, more than likely due to the Tarantino connection. Bey, Cameron (March 8, 2021). The new recordings featuring Rubinek and Pinchot end up being the best ones even though they’re more standard phone interviewsthan “commentaries”; the two areclearly not watching the film. Rubinek’s ends up being funny because it sounds as though he got the role because Scott thought he was doing a spot-on impersonation of producer Joel Silver, whom Rubinek was not at all familiar with. Pinchot’s piece ends up being the most endearing one, the actor excitedly talking about what he was able to contribute to the film, like the vomit (which is also shown in one of the production featurettes elsewhere). Pinchot also talks about the casting process where he suspects Scott was maybe a little annoyed with him since Pinchot had refused to return for Beverly Hills Cop II, which Scott had directed. Despite that he found the experience working with him rewarding and he mentions how devastated he was when he learned of Scott’s death. This ends up being the best new contribution and based on the original listing of supplements (for the 2021 UK edition) it looks like it was added last minute. It was well worth it. a b Spitz, Marc (April 25, 2008). "True Romance: 15 Years Later". Maxim. Archived from the original on February 12, 2013 . Roger Ebert gave the film a positive review remarking that "the energy and style of the movie are exhilarating", and that "the supporting cast is superb, a roll call of actors at home in these violent waters: Christopher Walken, Dennis Hopper, and Brad Pitt, for example". [22] A negative review by The Washington Post 's Richard Harrington claimed the film was "stylistically visceral" yet "aesthetically corrupt". [23]

New 4K restorations of both the Theatrical Cut and the Director’s Cut from the original camera negatives by Arrow FilmsIn 1993, action movie supremo Tony Scott teamed up with a hot new screenwriter named Quentin Tarantino to bring True Romance to the screen, one of the most beloved and widely-quoted films of the decade. In 1993, this seemed new. Unreal. Unusual even. Fan culture stayed in a corner. Stereotypes bloomed – dingy basements, musty comic book stores, and anti-social geeks gathered to talk Spider-Man. Suddenly, True Romance turns that into Christian Slater, still awkward, still in a comic shop, but using his raw love for kung-fu as an in to bed Patricia Arquette. That was the dream. True Romance saw a future where pop culture turned into an entry point for relationships, and let movies turn people into drug dealing rebels. onslaught of both ambient environmental effects as well as a number of other effects which include everything from rubber being laid on the streets of

True Romance is a true oddity, the collision between a neophyte screenwriter obsessed with pop culture and an established director at the height of his glossy but superficial style. Quentin Tarantino and Tony Scott were nobody's idea of a marriage made in heaven, and it's a minor miracle that the film works at all, but the major miracle is that it actually works like gangbusters. The story itself isn't particularly noteworthy: Clarence (Christian Slater) is an employee of a comic book store in Detroit who’s content with his dead-end job until he meets Alabama (Patricia Arquette) at a theater showing a Sonny Chiba triple feature. The two form an instant connection, though there’s more to Alabama than meets the eye. Clarence’s relationship with her will lead the two on a cross-country adventure with a suitcase full of contraband, pursued by both the police and the mafia. The story may not be novel, but the devil’s in the details—Tarantino’s patented dialogue, combined with Scott’s casting choices and staging, resulted in a film that’s stood the test of time despite its unfortunate box office failure in 1993. The disc looks great, it's just not perfect and I want people to understand that. Are we happy to get movies released on 4K that look good? Or do you want absolute perfection? I would pay more to get a perfect release. I know I'm in the 1%tile here, but that's how I feel. As noted before the disc also includes both the theatrical and director’s cuts of the film. The differences come down mostly to violence but there are also a couple of different editsincluding a notable difference during the final showdown and involving Chris Penn’s character. As noted in the section around the picture presentation, the quality of the two presentations is the same. Roberts, Amy (February 17, 2017). "You Need To Rewatch These '90s Cult Classics". Bustle.
