Columbus didn’t know it, but he had sailed into what’s now called the Sargasso Sea—a huge area of the Atlantic Ocean. It overlaps about half of the Bermuda Triangle. In fact, it is just one of the stories about the Bermuda Triangle—the name given to a triangular area in the ocean, off the coast of Florida, where dozens of ships and planes have disappeared. Our mission is to foster a universal passion for reading by partnering with authors to help create stories and communicate ideas that inform, entertain, and inspire. Columbus’s crew was terrified when they heard about his compass pointing the “wrong” way. They were afraid that they’d never find land. But Columbus calmed them down. He said that maybe his compass wasn’t supposed to point to the North Star. Maybe it was supposed to point to something else, although he didn’t know what. Was he right? Years later, scientists learned more about how compasses work and found out that Columbus was right. Ancient people from many different cultures - Greek, Roman, Mezo-American, Arab - all looked up and imagined pictures in the sky by "drawing" a line from one star to another, like a connect-the-dots puzzle. These star pictures - constellations - represented myths and legends from the various cultures that still fascinate us today.

Who doesn’t love a great mystery? This book presents the eerie accidents and unexplained disappearances that have occurred in the region known as the Bermuda Triangle. The ocean is unusually deep in the Bermuda Triangle. It’s three miles deep in many places and over five miles deep in one spot. Hundreds of different species of small sea creatures live miles below the surface. This is the story of the mysterious area known as the Bermuda Triangle—who vanished, how they disappeared, and why. This book goes over the basics of the Bermuda Triangle, like where it is located and the different stories of lost planes and ships that go along with it. One day in 1882, Thomas Edison flipped a switch that lit up lower Manhattan with incandescent light and changed the way people live ever after. The electric light bulb was only one of thousands of Edison’s inventions, which include the phonograph and the kinetoscope, an early precursor to the movie camera. As a boy, observing a robin catch a worm and then take flight, he fed a playmate a mixture of worms and water to see if she could fly! An accessible, appealing biography of the inventor. For hundreds of years after that, sailors passing through these waters told tales about the Sargasso Sea. They called it the “graveyard of ships” or the “sea of doom.” According to the stories, ships could sail into it, but often they couldn’t escape. Ghost ships supposedly sailed there forever, with skeletons on board as crews.

Compasses do go wonky due to magnetic anomalies though. But still, there are other means, and maybe 'Don't panic' is good practice. Where, exactly, is the dangerous area of water that—according to stories—has been the cause of so much tragedy? Draw three lines on a map connecting Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and Miami, Florida. The lines will make a triangle in the ocean. That’s the location of the Bermuda Triangle. The Bermuda Triangle is in between Miami, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda. It has had 5 airplanes in a day disappear and 20 airplanes in all. There have been over 100 ships disappear in the Bermuda triangle. The book says that all the disappearances are most likely Coincidence. Also the weather is very bad in the triangle so it's easy to crash a plane and there heavy so the sink to the bottom fast without a trace. It said the 5 planes disappearing was because of running out of gas. Who doesn't love a great mystery? Who doesn’t love a great mystery? This book presents the eerie accidents and unexplained disappearances that have occurred in the region known as the Bermuda Triangle. Even before it was named, the Bermuda Triangle–roughly bounded by Miami, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico–had gained a mythic reputation. The Bermuda Triangle became famous for making boats and ships vanish, and for snatching planes right out of the sky. But are these stories true? And if they are true, is there a more sensible reason that refutes the bad karma of the region? With so many mystifying events to learn about, readers will love disappearing into this story. Where Is the Bermuda Triangle? by Megan Stine – eBook Details The first person ever known to sail near the Bermuda Triangle was Christopher Columbus. In 1492, he sailed west from Spain, hoping to find a new route to Asia. Instead, he wound up on an island off the coast of Florida—an island called San Salvador, that’s now part of the Bahamas. In fact, it is just one of the stories about the Bermuda Triangle—the name given to a triangular area in the ocean, off the coast of Florida, where dozens of ships and planes have"disappeared" Although this book is aimed at children, I recommend this book to anyone who is wondering what the truth behind the mysterious disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle is.

How could this possibly happen? How could six planes and twenty-seven men vanish into thin air, never having sent an emergency signal? All the planes had life rafts on board. If the pilots had to land their planes in the ocean, wouldn’t at least some of the pilots have survived? A pilot said that the ocean appears smooth and it's hard to delineate the horizon and so planes crash from this confusion. Interesting. Horse latitudes are seamen mythology at 30 to 35 degrees above and below equator, who knew? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horse_l... For weeks, the navy searched a wide area of the sea. They never found a single thing—not even a piece of a broken plane floating in the water. Even now, more than seventy years later, the story makes people wonder whether there is something strange and unusual about the area the planes were flying through. The whole Who Was series has been fantastic but I absolutely love this particular edition! What sets it apart is the chapter that begins with the librarian who gets intrigued by all the stories about the Bermuda Triangle and then starts combing the archives to find out the truth behind some of the stories. Low and behold: he finds a lot of perfectly rational explanations, and that some of the stories attributed to the Bermuda Triangle took place in other areas entirely!I pride myself on being able to read whole chapters into a single syllable, you know? What girl doesn't? So when Lennon said "Hi", I ran through a whole list of possibilities. Was it, "Hi, I wish you were Chloe instead of Riley so I could make up with you"? Or did he mean, "You look exactly like the girl I'm totally over, so get out of my sight"? Or was it just, "Hi, I hope you're not as down on me as your sister is and, by the way, could you be careful not to spill anything, either"? But none of those sounded right. Finally I had to admit that he might have just been trying to say hello. Call me crazy, but it could be true!” I did enjoy this book as this was a topic that I did not know much about and it was fun learning about the crazy stories surrounding the Bermuda Triangle.

Although there are thousands of people who claim to have experienced alien abduction, much of the world remains skeptical.
