Fierce in the sense that many if not most viewers of this film would rather condemn the parents rather than laugh at the outcome of a rather senseless losing of a child, on the way to Europe. Anyway, the novelization does fill in a couple of plot holes, though. I always wondered why Kevin didn't just call the cops when he realized robbers were going to be coming after him. Turns out he thought about it, but was concerned they were going to arrest him for accidentally stealing the toothbrush earlier, and they were just laying in wait for him all over the neighborhood. The movie's screenplay is by John Hughes, who sometimes shows a genius for remembering what it was like to be young. His best movies, such as " Sixteen Candles," " The Breakfast Club," " Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and " Planes, Trains and Automobiles," find a way to be funny while still staying somewhere within the boundaries of remote plausibility. This time, he strays so far from his premise that the movie suffers. In the rush,one of the elder children counts the rest, and there are about ten or eleven of them, and finds that they are all ready, because he has included a visiting boy from the neighborhood. The false policeman is puzzled by this change, since he has asked in an alleged official capacity and learned about the trip to Europe, France more exactly. Important, because the cop is actually a robber, interested to know what the defenses are, if any, and then use the spying to avoid any traps.

That is why I was a little disappointed when I found out that they have left out some of these moments in the childrens book. Especially as a chilrens book I think they would have been better off not leaving out so many funny and great moments. Apparently the book doesn't do the movie the justice it deserves. It does not have the depth the movie has but the illustrations are so beautiful and very nice to look at. If I had children I would definitely read it to them and - of course - show them the movie since I still think that the movie is much better than the book. I didn't have quite as much fun reading the book (as you can even call it 'reading' since I've finished it in not even two minutes) as watching the movie. Marv has the habit of letting the water flow in the sink, in the houses they had robbed, as a signature and that could be used as evidence. Yay: Every thing is fun. The third-person perspective in past tenses is stupendously written for all ages. HOME ALONE is my top childhood movie of all time. I already lost count how many times I replayed it and laughed my lungs out. If you have loved it just the way I did, you will also love this book. It captures the heart and soul of the film itself. Nay: A number of dialogues are changed. One is the scene where Kevin's mom felt anxious while on a plane to Paris, she shouted "Kevin!" the moment she remembers what she left behind. In this book, when she remembers, she instead screamed "STOP THE PLANE." The minifigs even made it onto this year's December calendar with Santa, Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, and Tiny Tim. It surely has to do with different standards, the evolution of politically correct standards and a much more drastic perspective on parenting. On Christmas Eve, Kevin overhears Harry and Marv discussing plans for breaking into his house that night. After conversing with a Santa Claus impersonator and watching a local choir perform in a church, he comes across Marley. The two of them talk, and he learns that Marley is in fact a very nice man and the rumors about him are not true. He tells Kevin he is watching the choir because his granddaughter is in it, and he never gets to see her because he and his son have not spoken in years after a big argument they had. Kevin advises him to reconcile with his son. Bio: Todd was born in New York City. When he was young his parents moved to Roslyn Heights, New York (Long Island). Todd went to the I.U. Willets Elementary school and then attended the Wheatley School for junior high and high school. His best subjects were math and science. He also liked to read, but he had trouble with spelling and grammar, and didn't do well in English. His favorite sports were tennis, skiing and fishing. Todd went to college at New York University for a few years, and then dropped out. He lived on a commune, then lived in Europe where he was a street musician. Anyway, another thing I always wondered about was how Kevin cleaned the house. He doesn't make anywhere near as big a mess as he does in the movie, but still, that's some damn impressive cleaning for a seven-year-old (his age in the book) to do in just a couple of hours. I'd love to learn how he got the tar off the basement steps, and ice off the outdoor steps. I suppose everything else was doable, though those feathers would've been a pain, and I'm sure he just flat-out ruined the front door knob with the blow torch (which is what he used in book instead of a charcoal starter). And with all that cleaning, why didn't he find the gold tooth? He obviously swept and vacuumed. Yay: This is a family comedy during a Christmas season. Therefore, each member fairly meets the stereotype. There is a bully big brother, sisters who don't seem to care and caring parents who will do every thing they can to protect their youngest. Nay: However, Kevin is the only character who have shattered the walls. His character evolves in a way that you will realize that being young is not defined by your age. Your age is just a number. Your courage to face the most uncomfortable situation matters more.So, yeah, I'm probably a fan. If the conditions I mention above don't apply, skip this book and just watch the movie. And this clip about how the whole thing could've gone drastically wrong for Kevin.

This is one of the comedy classics, although it loses somewhat, if not a great deal, when seen now, almost thirty years since its premiere. It has become quite like a tradition to watch this movie every single year for christmas. I always watch it with my whole family, even my dad joins us every time. I can never decide which part of the movie I like best. Would it be the part when Kevin sets all the traps? Or when he goes shopping by himself loosing all his groceries on the street? Or maybe when he's reunited with his family again? So so so many great moments in this movie I can't even express how much I love it.
