Description

I am a heliotrope fan, that is why I respect Elephant so much and try to approach if from different angles. A stirring stage as lactones and hedione promenade with the spices, and one can almost mistake this for a floral heart, but surely it can't be that straightforward, as it is L'Elephant after all. I can pick out most of the notes, it is a beautiful blend, and the dry down still has a pretty unique smell. When I wear it in cooler weather, I get more of the spice, which is interesting (you would think it would be the other way around).

I love the idea of a fragrance giving you completely different profiles depending on the temperature and both profiles being really good. Not quite at all, even though we sense suggestions of mandarin and mango, they serve more to quench the spices than to render the scent sweet. These days, I get a fascinating mix of cinnamon-camphor warmth (reminiscent of Tiger Balm), nutty cardamom, creamy tropical florals, and milky vanilla. Don’t get me wrong, SL is right up my alley, and I’ll never let go of my Jeux de Peau, but Chergui is on thin ice because although beautiful, it doesn’t develop as well on me as others I have in the same vein do—if you own CD Addict, in the first and second formulations, I swear there’s a bit of Chergui going on there in between the two—and a few others are outta here.

The Elephant is a king of the jungle and it's a pretty tough animal - either you wear it or it wears you. You'll either love it or hate it its like Angel by Thierry Mugler not in its fragrance but its nuclear power. In the heart the ylang and heliotrope come forward along with the licorice and the scent becomes softer. Maybe Kenzo meant to draw our attention to their rarity, a rarity reflected in this strange and enormous, intelligent, refined, and LOUD af perfume. Like its trumpeting cry as it echoes for miles, Jungle L'Elephant announces its presence–and that of its wearer–long before either can be seen.

While not listed in the notes I keep thinking I smell Anise, which I think is an illusion of the liquorice mixing with the other spices. I even purchased a FB of the Anneyake scent that does smell a bit like Jungle, but fades to an amber ghost in minutes on my skin. Two modest sprays is the absolute max I’d use, and even then only if I was going to be somewhere outdoors. I don't know if I was sold a duff sample on 2 occasions or if this perfume just really really doesn't suit me.

Its a pitty, I was so intrigued by that super spicy first few minutes until it settled and got weird. It’s gorgeous, but definitely a ‘bomb’ I think I may need a full bottle, it’s discontinued and getting harder to find! I always get compliments when I’m wearing this, and people would run behind me asking me about what I’m wearing. It's also a lot sweeter and creamier than Le Parfum, which is on the crisp, nongourmand side of the vanilla spectrum. I guess in that way I could see wearing it any time of year and just leaning into different interpretations of clove.Kenzo Jungle L'Éléphant is a great modern oriental - fruity and spicy but with a fizzy airiness that feels more wearable and current than Opium et al. I only find one flaw to this otherwise masterpiece, and it is that I have found that from far away it can turn cold and “metallic”. Please read the full reviews and consider your own needs and preferences before making a purchasing decision. It is a sophisticated but fun spicy scent, rich but translucent, composed with a surprisingly light touch. It just fits the tropical heat perfectly and is so pleasantly different from the mass of aquatic or citrus-y summer fragrances.

I can really understand the fear and fright that this perfume can give, it is very strong, very intense and overwhelming. A spice bomb for sure and beast mode, also tends to lend a little on the masculine side, which I don't mind, but definitely a unisex fragrance.L'Elephant makes me want to curl up next to my fireplace wrapped up in a warm cozy blanket, whilst sipping on my chai latte. Some had that grandpa old-timer aftershave drydown (FM Noir Epices) which again- is great for men perhaps.
