The first Loki had me roaring last year so I was thrilled to learn there’d be a follow-up (and the end of the story tantalisingly teases the next one! When Heimdall and Hyrrokkin abandon their “children” to go on holiday, Odin sends Baldur – Thor’s half brother and god of making Loki look bad – to babysit. While on the surface it is a hilarious portrayal of a very frustrated Loki’s attempt to prove that he is not the monster everyone makes him out to be, it also contains many allusions to various stories throughout Norse Mythology. In comparison to their favourite book, the language within Loki: A Bad God's Guide to Being Good is more challenging but not overly so in comparison to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid, all the while retaining a good humour.

Loki might not have shown any moral improvement (yet) but Odin has given him another chance to prove himself worthy of A. A quirky fantasy adventure in which a human boy and a Greek goddess accidentally release an immortal supervillain who is determined to take over the world - and maybe even the universe. This book was also really exciting as you got to play detective and solve the mystery of Thor’s missing hammer. Having read the story myself, I had a good feeling that my Year 4 class (avid lovers of the classic 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid') would greatly enjoy this particular book. This side-splitting tale, which contains an abundance of references to Norse mythology, is hugely entertaining from start to finish. Explore our pick of the best children's books in February 2022 – from thrilling escape rooms to the surprising adventures of a crisp packet, there's something for every reader to enjoy! In each book, Loki must face the challenges of any ordinary 11-year-old, and the results are knee-slappingly, tear-inducingly hilarious! Despite his contemptuous attitude towards mortal beings, readers will be rooting for him to make the right choices, as he learns about guilt, loyalty and friendship.

After playing one trick too many, Loki, Norse god of mischief, is sent by Odin to live on earth as an 11-year-old boy.Wry, witty and very funny diary-style story packed with doodles and comic strips about the frustration trickster god Loki feels at having to live trapped in the body of a weedy eleven-year-old boy.

Before anyone cries "woke nonsense", please remember that particular detail is traditional Norse mythology. Another hilarious Loki book […] Loved the explanations of mortal things such as zoos, mall etc that made me laugh out loud.Everyone, like it or not, has a bit of Loki and Thor in them - and this book highlights that perfectly. It's funny, great illustrations, contains important life lessons and it's great to see lots of positive representations. At the end of the book my class gave a spontaneous round of applause which they've never done before!

Loki must record evidence of his moral improvement in a magical diary which, unfortunately for him, corrects lies and deducts ‘virtue points’ from his score whenever he behaves badly.

This selection of books shows what Viking life was like, with all the action and humour you might expect.
