To sum up, One for Sorrow is a good police procedural dealing with important social themes and manages to keep me hooked almost throughout. First of all, thank you so, so much Avon books for sending me this book. It was through Netgalley and Avon books that I first came to discover Helen Fields and she's been my favorite author ever since.Tartan Noir luminary Fields, who divides her life between Scotland, England and the US, this week launches the latest novel in her Edinburgh-set crime series featuring handsome, half-Scottish, half-French DI Luc Callanach and tough DCI Ava Turner.

Other highlights of my read included Dr Connie Woolwine’s appearance (from Helen Fields’ standalone The Shadow Man). The conversation she has with Luc in the bar is a stand-out. Also, I really enjoyed Dr Carlisle’s appearance - I am looking forward to seeing him again at some stage. There are plenty of characters but no confusion. That’s probably because I assumed that the ones from the force are recurring characters. One for Sorry by Helen Fields says book 7 of 7, but there better be more after this!! This is quite a twisty and diabolical book. The Liam character was so cringeworthy, and I kept anticipating what would happen next to Quinn.The bomber sets up elaborate traps that no one can predict. It’s brutal and filled with jaw dropping moments. And he makes it quite clear that there is more to come. The police are at a complete loss to make sense of this series of crimes. No one has any idea that she might still be out there. A burning corpse of a person usually seems pretty open and shut. Elaine might still be out there, and if anyone might be able to find her, it is Luc Callanach. The Detective Inspector has just been given a nice new office but has barely time to enter it when the case of a missing person is upgraded to murder.

One For Sorrow is told between present day... a homicide of someone very close to DI Ava Turner, then leading to various bombings putting Ava under pressure to solve the case without more lives being lost, which is proving challenging. To Before following the life of Quinn, whose world is turned upside down by an admirer and her unfolding story. Can DI Ava and her team solve this before more lives are lost??... When you’re able, you need to make time to understand how privileged you are to have felt such pain. Too few of us ever find a love that devastates us like that.” This was a tough read - so much sorrow and so many deaths; but it's a great entry in the series which finds Ava and Luc investigating a series of brutal and somewhat ingenious murders, starting off with their great friend, the veteran Medical Examiner, whose horrible demise seems to set the tone of the book.I have found a new crime thriller series to follow - Helen Fields' series DI Luc Callenach. The description of One for Sorrow attracted me as did the setting in Scotland. What I didn't pay attention to was the fact that this is book 7 in the series. Arrgh! I do this all the time, start with the wrong book. Edinburgh is gripped by the greatest terror it has ever known. A lone bomber is targeting victims across the city and no one is safe.
