Description

Sarah Templeton is an English Counsellor, CBT Therapist, and Coach, who has specialised in ADHD since her own shock diagnosis at the age of fifty-one Sarah has worked in four English prisons and been dismayed at the number of diagnosed, but more often undiagnosed ADHD kids who end up in prison. He has written many books, this one is co-authored by Dr Ratey told through their experiences with patients, both children and adults.

Space to make notes at the end of each chapter and real life examples, straight from Sarah‘s therapy room, of what works, what doesn’t and why. I love how this book helps parents create a deeper relationship with their kids so that the whole family can thrive. Thank you to the author for putting herself out there the way she does to help the Neuro-divergent community. And it’s nothing complicated, no complicated rewards system, just truly understanding the adhd brain. I know I do far better chasing a reward / goal in life, and I can set my own but little dude doesn’t have those skills yet. I have recommended Sarah a number of times to clients needing ADHD Therapy – for her ‘no nonsense’, ‘say it as it is’ approach. If your kiddo, someone you love, care for, or even yourself has ADHD this book is good as a resource for some tips and tricks.

Great book and information that really helps you understand your child, highly recommend family members read this book. Not only did it help me to see how differently the ADHD mind operates from my own -as well as recognising other reactions, it also helped me in a professional capacity as a trainer. It empowers parents to take charge of the life of their child with ADHD rather than feel constantly distressed and overwhelmed by the special needs of these unique children. We will soon be going to see a Paediatrician to get the formal diagnosis and hopefully start medication to help calm that overly busy but clever brain of his! This book, written by the very experienced Psychologist Dr Sharon Saline, is aimed at helping children with ADHD succeed in school and life.Sarah Templeton is an English counselor, CBT therapist, and coach who has specialized in ADHD since her own shock diagnosis at the age of 51. We can see it’s an adhder who wrote it because it’s never boring, goes straight to the point, hands on, and powerful at the same time. It’s SO therapeutic to read accounts of how ADD(/ADHD) has affected others’ lives–those who have it and those around them–and it’s quite refreshing to discover the positive aspects of ADD, as well as what things help an ADD child/adult to thrive. Although aimed at parents, it has something for everyone involved with ADHD kids: teachers, psychologists, doctors, and family. My husband is now diagnosed, starting medication and has Greg as his Coach, who he describes as “one of the most decent human beings he has ever met”.

Read real-life examples where therapeutic strategies and different ways of doing things have turned ADHD houses of horror into oasis of calm and serenity. She knew that parents understanding their ADHD kids’ brains was critical to keeping them on the straight and narrow during their teenage puberty years and making sure they avoided petty crime as adolescents. I know I have so many books that will sit unread and then I’ll find time to read and wish I had included them in this list. Subjects covered are: making sense of your child’s symptoms; learning parent techniques to promote better behaviour from your child; strengthening your child’s academic and social skills; restoring harmony at home. Sarah Templeton is candid in her descriptions of the challenges that can (and most often do) arise when raising a child with ADHD, but offers frank explanations and guidance.Sarah gives the issue/ADHD trait, how it’s caused / why it happens and then gives useful solutions / ideas to support. It’s really pushing a respectful approach – an approach that validates and supports rather than berates / humiliates.
