Description

Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. The Internet has had a profound impact on the whisky industry. Its speed and reach have introduced swathes of new enthusiasts. Its breadth has greatly increased consumer knowledge. And its pervasiveness has, at least to a certain degree, democratised the accessibility and availability of an ever growing number of bottlings. But, at its heart, it is a sea of bias, disparagement and sometimes outright meanness. Much of this stems from human nature – people are biased, judgmental and mean – the Internet merely provides a platform to vocalise these inner tendencies without penalty. Whisky appreciation is far from impervious to this – indeed, there are times when it feels like it’s becoming as polarised as our society. This Dalmore Port Wood Reserve began its maturation in classic ex-Bourbon barrels. After an unspecified period of time, the whisky was split: one half continued to age in these barrels, while the other half was transferred to former Tawny Port pipes for a period of twelve to eighteen months. The two halves were then combined and bottled at 46.5% ABV. Tasting notes Port Wood Reserve is the first whisky for which Dalmore has used W&J Grahams casks. The result was such that Paterson chose them for three other prestigious new bottlings: a Dalmore 15yo Vintage 2001, an 18yo Vintage 1998 and a 20yo Vintage 1996. Without prejudice to the section Liability below, the Service may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance, updates, etc. We shall make reasonable efforts to inform you of any unavailability due to maintenance or updates.

You don’t have too look far for recent examples – whilst the online furore over Glenlivet’s ‘whisky pods’ was masochistically fun to watch, it was also depressing. We talk a lot about the importance of whisky education, of making the spirit accessible and welcoming – and then, at the first opportunity we beat down any and all dissention that doesn’t fit in our conventional norms. And in true Internet fashion, this snowballs with new insulting comments being viewed as merely ‘sport’, and the slightest incline of genuine disagreement being seen as outright offense. A big signpost "trolls gather here". It’s par for the course with everything hosted online - and not just with whisky. But if you’re wondering why the category is still viewed as stuffy and elitist despite millions spent on brand education - well, this is partly your answer. We do it to ourselves.Comments: We found it almost vital to let sit in the glass and oxidize for several minutes, otherwise you get nothing but Port everywhere. Finish: Quite long with earthiness, mushrooms and soils alongside cinnamon, tingly pepper and charred oak. Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. We shall first try to settle any dispute over a dram of whisky. Disputes that cannot be settled over multiple drams of whisky shall be solely submitted to the court of Amsterdam, The Netherlands unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise. A whisky with an air of nobility, in keeping with Dalmore’s tradition, but not complacent, but cheerful and vital, almost cheeky, especially on the nose. The use of ex-port casks may be risky, but when it is well modulated, as in this case, the drinker is sure to enjoy it.

Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). Whisky enjoyment should be exactly that – enjoyment. Whether it be with family, friends or quietly and contemplatively alone. But, increasingly I’m seeing the nature of Internet impinge on this – criticism passed off as critical thinking (they are not the same), disapproval and scorn meted out as effortlessly as a passing compliment, and above all, a worryingly privileged air of superiority, more often than not based on little to no actual knowledge. Sometimes I feel like I’m missing something – isn’t whisky appreciation meant to be fun? We may, but are not under any obligation, to release new functionalities and tools or other features for the Service every now and then. Any new functionalities, tools and features shall be part of and governed by the Terms from the moment they are launched and/or available. We may sell, license, transfer, assign or in any other way dispose of the Service (including Members) to any third party without any notification to you, e.g. (but without limitation) in connection with any reorganization, restructuring, merger or sale, or other transfer of assets. We deliver to a number of international destinations including the USA. Please use the 'Change Location' link above for an estimate in your local currency or find out more about international delivery The core range, known as the Principle Collection, starts with the entry-level 12 Year Old , rising to the luxurious 21 Year Old . It also includes the popular Cigar Malt Reserve , designed specifically to be enjoyed with a cigar. All I can say on this one is “woah.” An NAS release intended to appeal to cigar aficionados as a perfect dram for pairing, this is undoubtedly the curveball of The Dalmore lineup, although its process isn’t really all that different. This release is initially matured in bourbon casks, like the others, before spending time in Matusalem oloroso sherry, but then finishing in Cru Cabernet Sauvignon wine barriques. It’s bottled at a somewhat more substantial 44% ABV (88 proof).
