Surround Sound Presentation: The rear channels engage you completely throughout with endless action (when there is action of course), swords and shields clanging, dragons soaring, wind gusts and so much more. I do love the directionality of the simplest of things like the wind blowing for example. Also, the rousing score once again fills the rears with sounds of delight to keep you in the middle of it all. In addition it’s also the ambiance of it all. I said it before and I’ll say it again this one is not mixed like any mere television show. This one is dressed to impress and it does so majestically! That said, although everything looks improved, the later seasons look better than the early ones, since they were finished with 4K to begin while the earlier ones have been retrofitted. The higher dynamic range means the colors look richer, the highlights look luminous, and the shadows look deeper. Dragonfire burns more brightly than ever before, and because of the increased detail, fans can finally watch “The Long Night”— an epic battle episode dinged for looking too dark— the way it was meant to be seen. Game of Thrones: Reunion Special: A two-part reunion show shot live in Belfast with the cast, both past and present, hosted by Conan O’Brien and available exclusively on these complete series collections. The reunion special is assembled in segments focused on Houses Lannister, Stark, & Targaryen and concludes with the key players all onstage for their final reflections on the years they shared in Westeros and Essos.

Alright, let’s take that plastic off so our pictures aren’t so reflective. As you can see down below I graciously provided you with a shot of the front, rear and spine of the what would be a…spoiler alert…giant slip cover. Best of all this thing is embossed! So let’s take the slip cover off and as you can see from the one side angle it exposes the fact that there are a total of 9 different disc cases, which will look at momentarily in more detail.

Side guide

The music score is beautifully mixed over the platform so as to add natural dimension and prioritization to its orchestrated elements while complimenting the story's thematic details. This is done to very good effect, correlating with the onscreen events quite nicely as the most minute audio cues are fully realized. Game Of Thrones The Complete Series is presented in 4K with a 2160p UHD transfer with an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 for each episode. Dolby Vision and HDR10 enhance the detail and color palette for those equipped for the upgrade. In the aforementioned article, I said that HDR “has the potential to be the most impactful advancement in TV technology since the introduction of HD resolution and digital television in the [2000s],” while lamenting that “it hasn’t yet reached widespread adoption on the content side or the consumer side.” I also said, in a hopeful note in the article’s conclusion, that “a lot can change in a relatively short period.” And I laid out a path forward for HBO: and I'd say that while things are better in seasons two and three, they're not quite at the lustrous levels seen throughout the later seasons).

Flesh Tones: The skin tones all look natural throughout these 4K presentations. However, it all depends upon the particular scene and lighting too as to how much you’ll see. HBO has released the complete series on Blu-ray previously, and Seasons One and Eight have been released on 4K Ultra HD as well (you can read our review of Season One here on The Bits). Now, after a long wait, the network has finally upgraded the rest of the series to 4K too. Byzantine and ornate costumes look fantastic throughout, especially (again) in the later seasons, where some of the intricate designs and even The primary plots play out over the course of the season three. The ones that I found to be the most interesting/entertaining were Jon Snow and Ygritte, the evolution of Jaime and Brienne’s relationship (the bear pit!), the wedding of Tyrion and Sansa and its effects on Shae, the unrelenting cruelty of Joffrey counterbalanced by Tywin’s affirming interference, my girl Daenerys Targaryen obtaining “The Unsullied” and continuing her unswayable quest, the Brotherhood Without Banners, the Hound and Arya, Tyrell family matriarch Lady Olenna and her insightful manipulation of those around her, last but not least is “The Rains of Castamere” and the wedding, wow.

Comparing the Dolby Vision and HDR10 presentations for Game of Thrones, I found the HDR renderings to be very close. As I alluded to earlier, the series’ elements aren’t consistently lent to use of overtly bright color/ dynamism but, I did take a close look at the rendering of contrast, chromatic depth and delineation during scenes containing dark and bright highlights. bottom line here is that the 4K presentations are in general a commendable, and in some cases pretty awesome, improvement over already

So that’s what you get in terms of special features. As you can clearly see, it’s a lot. And much of it is very good content indeed. The question you might be asking now is: What don’t you get?Starring: Peter Dinklage , Lena Headey , Emilia Clarke , Kit Harington , Sophie Turner , Maisie Williams Subtitles: English SDH, French, Latin American Spanish, Castilian, German, Italian SDH, Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Russian, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Greek, Hebrew, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovenian, Turkish, Complex Chinese, Korean, Thai I apologize to everyone out there who bought Seasons 1 and 8 on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format because you’re kind of double dipping. At the time of this writing there are no known releases plans for the individual seasons. One has to believe that will happen, but for now if you want to experience the complete series of Game of Thrones on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc, then you’re going have to pay to play here. And by that I mean you’re going to have to splurge! Sorry. I know this collection is not cheap, but you are getting quality product here. I assure you of that!
