Description

As the human world expands it takes over the wilderness. Woodland is chopped down and savannah is turned into roads and shopping malls. Males are more conspicuous. For most of the year they show off pale blue testicles. During mating season these testicles turn bright blue, a flamboyant show to suggest their suitability as a mate! They are prevalent just about everywhere their habitat needs are met. Vervets love acacia woodland, especially close to water. But they can survive in most woodland habitats and also live on savannah plains, especially at higher altitudes where there are less predators.

The Lesula ( Cercopithecus lomamiensis) seems to have escaped previous scientific notice because of its remote habitat, which was largely unexplored by professional biologists until recently.

The challenge for conservation now in Congo is to intervene before losses become definitive," say John and Terese Hart, who led the investigation team, in tinned quotes. "Species with small ranges like the lesula can move from vulnerable to seriously endangered over the course of just a few years." As beautiful as they are, vervet monkeys are hugely misunderstood creatures. They are considered rampant thieves and are often shot by people as pests. As the urban world expands, these monkeys are on the front line of human wildlife conflict. Some monkeys are friendly with each other. But other monkeys are nasty pieces of work. They get aggressive towards others and try to bully themselves into positions of power. Steve Smallman lives in Staffordshire with his wife, two dogs and two cats. He has four children and a grandchild. Steve has been illustrating children’s books for over 40 years and writing his own stories for slightly less. He also teaches illustration workshops in schools, including mural-painting. When he’s not writing or drawing, Steve enjoys watching films and television, gardening, and walking in the countryside. Steve is the author of Smelly Peter the Great Pea Eater (Winner of the Sheffield Children's Book Award 2009) and The Lamb Who Came for Dinner (Shortlisted for the Red House Children's Book Award and read by Meatloaf on CITV's Bookaboo). They can realize butts when they see one because they know that when their females get red and swollen butts, it means it is time for mating. 1

OK HELP ME FIND THE TENA THREAD must be a good one? ive had a full glass of red and im ready 4 it lol These monkeys take their nutrition from young leaves and shoots. They can spend an entire day in a tree eating its leaves, but are also comfortable crossing the savannah eating fresh grass. That gives the female a short window to breed and restart the cycle. The troop grows and grows as most females reproduce every single year. Females will have different mates over a lifetime but it is rare for them to have multiple mates during a single breeding season. Vervet Monkeys Behave Just Like People! Yet the monkeys can respond to that threat based on their knowledge of the caller.

See.....before anyone says anything.....yes i know i didn't tell anyone i was appearing in a video!!!!! ...No autographs sorry!!! Mandrills live in large "supergroups" or "hordes" that can contain hundreds of individuals. [40] [50] [51] These large groups are fairly stable and do not appear to be gatherings of smaller ones. At Lopé National Park, Gabon, mandrill hordes were found to have an average of 620 individuals, and some groups were as large as 845, making them possibly the largest cohesive groups of wild primates. [51] Another study in Lopé found that a horde of 625 mandrills consisted of 21 dominant males, 71 less dominant and subadult males, 247 adult and adolescent females, 200 juveniles, and 86 dependent infants. [40] A mandrill horde of around 700 individuals in northern Lopé had a total home range of 182km 2 (70sqmi), 89km 2 (34sqmi) of which was suitable habitat. The supergroup would occasionally diverge into two to four subgroups before reuniting. [52] Another 15-month long study of a 120 member group found a home range of 8.6km 2 (3.3sqmi) with an average traveling distance of 2.42km (1.50mi) per day.
