What I mean by feeling high stakes and not being high stakes is you already know the murder victim, John Paul, and you’re just waiting for the how. And, if you’re anything like me, you’re rooting to see the murder in the past scenes even if you already know it happened. Because John Paul is a horrible human being top to bottom, hence why his four sister-in-laws have joined together to plot his murder.

Honestly, I loved this book! I really felt for all of the sisters and could understand them, while they annoyed me at the same time - in a good way, because you never knew who to trust. I loved the tension and suspense in this book - the sinister feeling that something was wrong. And, especially, I loved all the dark twists, turns and revelations. But, even though the chapters were titled by the time they took place in, I got really confused about the timelines sometimes, and I even had to start the book anew after the first six chapters because I had to untangle what was going on when.This story is like an octopus, with all its tentacles weaving independently this way and that way, yet somehow all connected. Everyone lies. That's sort of a mantra for law enforcement officers. And now it's up to those in charge to ferret out the lies, expose them to the light of day, and solve their case.

It definitely got the job done and looked fine, but it didn't stand out as anything especially great or beautiful to me. I usually don't have any issues with that aspect of graphic novels, so the fact that it stood out as something I wasn't wild about felt a little weird to me. That's a very minor criticism though, as I did enjoy the novel overall.

By the end, I was so worked up about some of the characters and wondering who might make it out unscathed that I quite literally was walking circles with my dog to draw out my listening time just that little bit longer.
