Description

Founded in 1960 by Ake Nordin, Fjallravens mission statement from the very start has been the design of outdoor clothing and equipment that effortlessly blends style and function. The result has been 60 years of high-quality clothing that allows its wearers to enjoy the great outdoors in comfort and look good doing it. The waist has belt loops which is useful, especially for forest work as I can hang my axe from it. The trousers come with a "raw-length." The benefit of this is that the trousers can be tailored to your exact inside leg measurement for a more precise fit. Cut them a little longer for style and to help stop critters entering or a little shorter if you spend a lot of time splashing through water. For those who want more information, I have uploaded a review of the Barents trousers which makes a detailed comparison between this model and the Barents Pro. The Fjallraven Brenner Pro Trousers are an excellent waterproof trouser, designed and developed especially for hunting and forest activities. They are made from the superbly durable G-1000 Silent fabric, and feature a waterproof 'Hydratic' lining. As tried and tested by Ray in Northern Sweden, the Brenner Pro Trousers will keep you silent, dry and warm. You can add as many layers of wax to your garment to make it more and more resistant to the weather. The icing on the cake however is that the wax is easily removed by machine washing!

These trousers come in European sizes, but Fjallraven provides a conversion chart. Size 50 is given as equivalent to my normal waist size of 34, and it turned out to be spot on. The lining of the Brenner Pro Trousers is made from Hydratic, a wind- and water-proof fabric that is also highly breathable. This lining makes them ideal for use in cold and/or wet conditions, while still allowing body vapour to escape, keeping you at a comfortable temperature. The Vidda Pro ventilated is an updated version of the classic Vidda pro and has some added features to help combat sweaty legs on long hikes. Namely generous ventilated openings from the knees to hips and a slimmer fit to increase ease of movement. In summary, though expensive and heavier than some trekking trousers, the Fjallraven Barent Pro really delivers on quality and performance beyond just trekking, as long as it's in cooler weather. Okay firstly they are not cheap, but then quality very rarely is, but Fjallraven kit does tend to last and stand up to hard work.

For the most accurate result, you should be measured wearing only your undergarments or close-fitting clothing, for example, a base layer. It’s not a good idea to measure yourself wearing jeans, sweaters or other bulky clothing.

Having owned Paramo and Buffalo garments (and still do) I wondered what Fjallraven had to offer, having been impressed by their range over the years. They can feel a little on the warm side, but I have not had chance for use in temperature lower than 5C. Stretch panels connecting the durable G-1000 eco allow for a great range of movement. As mentioned before the G-1000 adds to the versatility of the Kaipak making it a useful addition to your hiking wardrobe. Ask a friend to take your measurements while standing in a straight and relaxed position without shoes. Remember that the tape measure should not be pulled too tight around the body but not be too loose either. The Keb features heavy-duty G-1000 eco on the rear, front of the legs, the knees and on the inside bottom of the legs, which is also reinforced with a double layer of fabric to withstand wear from hiking boots. These panels of G-1000 eco are connected by stretch fabric allowing your body full ease of movement. When combined with the optimised fit the Keb trousers are an absolute dream for those who find themselves being active outdoors. The trousers are also tough. They are made of Fjallraven’s G-1000 material, a heavy-duty polyester-cotton canvas, and they have a reinforced seat and knees. The knees have openings for knee pads. The trouser legs too are on the narrow side compared to my other hiking trousers, but they have articulated knees so they are not unduly restrictive. They come in raw length so you have to get them hemmed to suit you.
