The Grape spirit and juice are then blended with premium dark chocolate to create the smooth silky red wine liqueur that is Rubis. You should also note that the picture images show only our serving suggestions of how to prepare your food - all table accessories and additional items and/or ingredients pictured with the product you are purchasing are not included. The palate is quite complex and has more red fruit and rich, dark, chocolate flavours with is a touch of spice at the back of the palate. While we have taken care in preparing this summary and believe it is accurate, it is not a substitute for your reading the product packaging and label prior to use. Tried this for the first time today and I just could not resist having a second glass (sherry size).

The grapes are pressed in Spain with the juice being shipped over to England and fortified with grape spirit. In Religious ceremonies, hundreds of thousands of people a year were sacrificed and to be brave enough to put yourself forward for this was considered an honour. As cacao was so precious it was also used as a currency so was not immune to forgery attempts using avocado stones and wax. Rubis is a chocolate wine liqueur made from a blend of fortified red wine and premium chocolate flavours.I have been given a bottle by my friend Pat, an Oap whom I found on Facebook that knew my nan family etc. Notes of rich cherry and red fruit enveloped in velvety premium dark chocolate means Rubis can be enjoyed as an after-dinner treat or on any special occasion. It can also be used as a cooking ingredient and could be substituted for Port or Sherry in recipes – I can imagine it in a chocolate trifle of some sort. It’s currently being sold in Morrisons, with the supermarket describing it as tasting like “Christmas in a cup”.

The nose is a combination of red fruit notes, particularly red cherries, orange / citrus and, of course, lots of warming chocolate aromas. I was curious as to how this would taste as it sounded like the perfect pairing but was unsure how it worked as a wine.IF you've got a sweet tooth and like unusual pairings you might want try Morrisons' new chocolate flavoured wine. Rubis can be served at either room temperature or chilled over ice for that ultimate chocolate experience. The Aztecs used a process of separating cacao beans from the pod which involved cracking the pod open and allowing the flesh to ferment into a drink. Rubis Wine is an award-winning red made from Spanish Tempranillo grapes, that’s been infused with chocolate, hints of spice, cherries and vanilla. Rubis Chocolate Wine Liqueur is a good partner to chocolates (experiment with milk or dark chocolates) and any chocolate-based desserts, puddings or cakes.

Similar to an Affogato, instead of a shot of espresso, pour a heart glug of Rubis Chocolate wine over the top. It uses the best tempranillo grapes from the centre of Spain and velvety premium dark chocolate to give Rubis its bold fruity and chocolatey flavours. Mouth-watering aromas of bold cherry fruit, spices, fresh vanilla and chocolate box come forth on an engaging nose, whilst the palate is smooth, rich and velvety with a subtle sweetness and delicious layers of chocolatey flavour. Notes of rich cherry and red fruit enveloped in velvety dark chocolate makes it a perfect accompaniment to most desserts. Their ancient wisdom and famous cacao infusions was the gateway to Rubis as they blended precious seeds with great care to create this indulgent and potent wine. All in all, an unusual drink, but a good balance of wine and chocolate, neither really dominates the other.

This usually involved heart extraction and when the ceremony was over, they didn’t leave anything to waste. The company’s Instagram has some great suggestions, such as a Chocolate Negroni, a Chocolate Toffee Espresso Martini, or the dreamy Mon Cherie. This turned into something about the strength of a regular beer at 5 – 7% alcohol and the beans remained intact. Darkly decadent Spanish Tempranillo grapes and precious essence of cacao come together to create a taste experience to surprise and delight the senses. I would recommend this as an after dinner drink to round a meal off nicely, just as the Aztec Royalty did.
