Description

The Gryphon series is by far one of the most original ideas I have seen. This fascinating story will bring a cult following and if a continuation is created, may take off into something better than say Game of Thrones or Stranger Things. I am thrilled and inspired to see such an amazing story come to life, and it would be a shame if this was the only season created. Please, bring us more and I will do everything in my power to get the word out to viewers! Have your work published in any print, online, and social media materials we release related to our anniversary. For this occasion, photographers are invited to investigate around the theme " Past & Present", focusing on how image-making has changed its features and challenges in these past 15 years. MAY 4 is the last day for applying to the Open Call. Der Greif is a nonprofit organization dedicated to art and culture. As a registered nonprofit, we are committed to our artistic mission. Your contributions make our work possible. The series stars J eremias Meyer, Zoran Pingel, and Lea Drinda as the trio and is written and created by Sebastian Marka and Erol Yesilkaya.

We periodically invite our alumni, artists we have featured in the past, to share their new work and projects with us. Anna Thiele’s photograph Real World won the Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers 2023 in the Professional Section/Single Images. Her work was featured in two of our past Guest Rooms: “The Meanwhile”, curated by David Campany & Taous Dahmani and “Wild Loneliness”, ...The Cruzz” is a semi-documentary photography project that brings together images produced during two summers spent with a Mexican family in a small gated community, south-east of Mexico City. Thinking about the physicality of an image one must think about how an ad is presented as it is put out into the world. When faced with this, the most prominent example is the white cube gallery, and how an image is presented in such a space - a large image, consumed by the white vacuum. When looking at it, it feels devoid of meaning and keeps the audience looking for the description of the ... This collaboration encourages us to delve into the rich layers of influence that shape our image-making journey, echoing Douglas Crimp's concept of art as a "stratigraphic activity of layering." Join us in exploring this history and adding to the evolving narrative of contemporary photography. The biggest problem is the fact that the world Mark ventures into is too similar to our own. Aside from a looming great tower that rises above the land below it, the environments that Mark finds himself in are disappointingly ordinary. Fans of 70s Doctor Who will be right at home as most of the action takes place in dusty quarries that are not unlike the alien worlds that Tom Baker’s incarnation of the Time Lord often found himself in. But those hoping for a world that is like none other may be left unsatisfied after watching Mark traipse through locations that are all too familiar. A transcription of conversations with architect and artist Alan Rios Cruz, a friend I met while we both were in residency at the MAK Center for Arts and Architecture in Los Angeles in 2018. Alan’s family, and more specifically his two young brothers, are the main subject of “The Cruzz”, a series presented this week on Der Greif. This conversation happened on a Monday evening, in September 2023, ...

Der Greif - 15th Anniversary Open Call - Picter Der Greif - 15th Anniversary Open Call - Picter

When working on the series “The World of Hedonia”, I was inspired by Mark Fisher's book “Capitalist Realism”, where he accurately described my condition during the experiment. I realized that I was in “depressive hedonia” – the inability to do anything other than seek pleasure. The compelling emotional catalyst of the project En la Tierra Baja is my mother's oral memory about her town and the life of my maternal grandmother Lola, who died on February 15, 1975, prompting my mother to leave her hometown in search of economic opportunities. We periodically invite our alumni, artists we have featured in the past, to share their new work and projects with us. Magdalena Wutkowska’s work was first featured in our Guest Room curated by John Fleetwood in 2019. We are featuring her series “Infostates”, which touches on the overwhelming abundance of information in today's world. The basis of Wutkowska’s professional work as a biologist is ... Will there be Season 2 of The Gryphon? Renewal Possibilities

As a way to commemorate what we have accomplished together with our community, images from this open call will be chosen and displayed alongside selected imagery from Der Greif’s extensive archive. Many photographers and visual artists featured in the organization’s past have gone on to successful careers. This open call places their accomplished work in conversation with emerging image makers of today. While Vietnam represents for many in the West a place where a war was fought or athletic shoes are made, its people bear witness to a richer and far more complex reality. To expand and challenge the existing perception and notions of the past that cling to a place is to see and understand the unruliness of it. The Swiss artist was born in 1961 in Geneva, where she lives and works. Fleury has had numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States. In 2018 she was awarded Switzerland's Prix Meret Oppenheim and in 2015 received the Société des Arts de Genève Prize. Her work is held in international institutions. Greif Alumni: Q&A with Magdalena Wutkowska

Get the chance to be published in issue 14, become part of a truly collective work of art, guest-edited by Sylvie Fleury and get a free copy plus additional copies at a highly discounted rate For issue 14, Fleury proposes to use YES TO ALL as a paradoxical leitmotif for selecting submissions. Fleury aims to challenge familiar photographic structural tropes of 'families', 'categories' and other groupings with the submitted material, by collapsing these very notions through the inclusivity YES TO ALL calls for. Why submit to issue 14? Neshat invites the photographers to investigate the concept of shared humanity: “We all grapple with grief and trauma, both on an individual and collective level. But with this common ground, we feel less alone. This is human nature: we see and feel that others experience similar struggles therefore we feel bonded and hopeful. That is why we create art and culture to reach beyond our differences.”
