Description

Medusa - Medusa is the daughter of Phorcys and Ceto. She disguised herself as Aunty Em, the owner of a diner, to trap people and turn them into stone. Percy, Annabeth, and Grover killed her and Sally used her head to kill Smelly Gabe. The Lightning Thief is followed by The Sea of Monsters, in which Percy and Annabeth rescue Grover, who has been taken by Polyphemus the Cyclops, and recover the Golden Fleece to save the camp. They are accompanied in this mission by Percy's Cyclops half brother, Tyson, and by Clarisse La Rue. Gabe Ugliano - Gabe is Percy’s old abusive gambling stepfather who hit Sally. He was later killed by Sally, using Medusa’s head. But, I really have to thank Logan. I really do. Because without his unfreakingbelieveable hotness, I wouldn't have watched the movie, and I would've never read the awesomeness of The Lightning Thief.

No one seems to recall Mrs. Dodds’ existence, after Percy destroyed her, so he is even more convinced something strange is going on. Frustrated by this and other strange occurrences, his grades drop, he fights with Nancy, and then disrespects a teacher. With the end of the school year approaching, Percy is expelled from returning to Yancy Academy in the fall, but he is allowed to finish out the current school year. Percy decides the only final he will prepare for is Latin since Mr. Brunner is his favorite teacher. He approaches Mr. Brunner’s office and overhears a conversation between Mr. Brunner and Grover regarding the incident with Mrs. Dodds. They talk about magical mist making the students and staff forget the altercation. Then Grover says that Percy may be the only one who can save them from the “Kindly Ones” before the summer solstice. Minzesheimer, Bob (January 18, 2006). " 'Lightning' strikes with young readers". USA Today . Retrieved 2009-05-26. It starts off with that irresistible device beloved of fantasy books that you (vicariously the hero) were meant for more than this regular old world and that all those odd things you don't understand about everyday life ... really are odd and full of special meaning. In fact ... your dad's a god, and not just any old god but Poseidon himself. And that means you're part god yourself! Hoorah!Zeus - Zeus is the king of the gods and the father of Thalia Grace. He tried to kill Nico and Bianca and killed their mother. The movie (2010) was a joke and one of the most disappointing adaptations I've ever watched. I mean it was so awkwardly filmed! The moderately faithful plot and the great special effects were there, granted, and maybe even some of the acting too; but it all felt so clumsy and disjointed! And so many things were cut out. It was all so sad, the intention was clearly there, but the spirit was definitely not. Hardly a match to the book. Lerman and Daddario may have been ok, at best; but Brosnan as Chiron was so laughable. And the ending so insulting to the series progression! Fighting Kronos? Really??? Like they couldn’t wait to throw the biggest final antagonist of the series right at the beginning. And inexperienced newcomer Percy winning so easily, against the most dreadfully powerful god ever. Give me a break! Sadly, Not Recommendable. Many points to Sean Bean for not dying though!

Best Books for Young Adults with annotations". Young Adult Library Services Association. Archived from the original on April 2, 2009 . Retrieved May 19, 2009. Poseidon - God of the sea and earthquakes, father of Percy. He is very kind and has a good relationship with his son, visiting him on his fifteenth birthday and helping Tyson. Grover and I sat on the edge of the fountain, away from the others. We thought that maybe if we did that, everybody wouldn’t know we were from that school – the school for loser freaks who couldn’t make it elsewhere. Connor Stoll - A son of Hermes, younger brother of Travis. He is a prankster and constantly schemes. He has a rivalry with Katie.

Sprinkled throughout are stories from heroes who have called Camp Half-Blood home or just passed through on their way to places unknown. Chiron himself introduces the book with a brief history of training based on his millennia of experience. Being a children's story, it's understandable that character building plays the bigger role compared to setting up the environment. Still, I think the environs were adequately defined. The main characters - including the first person protagonist - were interesting, fun and delightful to observe. However, for me, the secondary characters appeared a little too funny, even when they were supposed to be threatening. It took away some of the suspense/ thrill that could've been there in my opinion. And also, if the set of main characters were a little older, may be things would appear a little more realistic (relatively). But as the plot itself is great, it's easy to forget those shortcomings, and enjoy the story. Obviously, none of these would matter to kids at all, who will find the entire thing to be quite entertaining. Sequence of events is very well thought out, and laid out in a way that will make you want to read the entire thing in one go, which is not difficult to do actually, as the book is not very long. Everything is well written, and well capable of intriguing one to continue with the rest of the series (which I'll be doing shortly). The class drifted off, the girls holding their stomachs, the guys pushing each other around and acting like doofuses. Amphitrite | Ariadne | Ganymede | Hecate | Iris | Janus | Morpheus | Nemesis | Pan | Phobos | Deimos | Persephone | Triton Chiron looked surprised. “I thought that would be obvious enough. The entrance to the Underworld is in Los Angeles.”As someone who has worked in Los Angeles, I can tell you that this is completely accurate.
