As a total foodie who always salivates over the food in animated films, I found this to be a very fun and quick read. We can't really talk about cookbooks for anime geeks without actually showing the granddaddy of all anime-centric cookbooks, can we? Each recipe started with a specific inspiration / appearance in an anime and a little backstory, followed by detailed instructions, and usually accompanied by an illustration. The Hello Kitty Baking Book lets you make cookies and cakes worthy of a special host bar, and even gives you decoration guidance too.

Each recipe is broken down with the name of the dish, the anime it's from and the specific episode, as well as a synopsis of the anime and the scene where the dish is presented. I mean, who can’t pass up on a cookbook inspired by some of the most iconic dishes featured in anime?

With each recipe you will get a short telling of what happened when the food from this anime was served, making it a nice way of remembering your favorite anime and even getting inspiration to watch the ones you haven't seen yet. If this is your first foray into Japanese cooking, you’ll appreciate the glossary of common Japanese ingredients, and where to find them (hint: online). As a gift from my anime-loving husband, "Cook Anime: Eat Like Your Favorite Characte Though it's not totally anime-centric, it's definitely a great selection for anyone who loves a little geekery here and there. Miura is also the author of Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru , which was adapted into a live-action film and the inspiring anime series Run with the Wind .

I own a lot of cook books and they are all pretty similar and full but this one is amazing I cook things I’d never cook just for the sake of liking the anime, and I’ve started new series just to see the food I’m going to cook! This involved poaching 3 eggs, rolling them in flour and then dipping them in assorted sources (dashi, miso and chilli) before adding the panko breadcrumbs and deep frying them. Delicious-looking recipes inspired by anime and Japanese culture - the ARC was entirely in black and white, which, for me, doesn't lend well to a cookbook. I will say that the book expects you to already understand cooking to some extent, with very little in the front about tools and technique, and several dishes that require more than a beginner understanding.

When the work stretches on and he needs a moment of rest and revitalization, he goes home to a warm meal of rice, miso soup, and shiozake prepared by someone he loves. The salmon can also be flaked apart and used as an Onigiri filling (page 62), or as a topping for rice dishes such as a donburi or Chazuke (page 33). The care that the creators and animators put into this facet of the art form is so impressive, and one of the aspects that sets Japanese animation apart from other animated media. The Manga Cookbook 2 brings you a brand-new selection of recipes for meals you often see in manga and anime, including omurice (rice-filled omelette), yakisoba (grilled noodles), saba shioyaki (grilled salted mackerel), okayu (porridge) and Japanese-style curry. The author chose an easy route, she took common food dishes seen in various anime and gives you a basic recipe for the dish, then tells you what anime that dish is seen in.

If you just like cooking then this book is also for you, but it is just way more fun if you get the references.

So, if you're looking for cookbooks for anime fans, choosing an easy-to-follow Japanese cookbook like this one makes sense. There is a fantastic variety of dishes for all cooking abilities, my personal favourite Howls Breakfast plate from Howls moving castle.

Host Rosanna Pansino kicks off every episode with a recipe that's based off a geeky element, such as unicorns, 8-bit games, or castles. You've joined your favorite anime characters on their adventures, you've read about them, and maybe you've even imagined that you are them from time to time.
