The Vielmetter gallery in Los Angeles is currently hosting a solo exhibition of paintings by Celia Paul, artist and author of the New York Review Books memoirs Self-Portrait and Letters to Gwen John. The author, Gavin Pretor-Pinney, is not just a veteran journalist but has also been a lifelong sky watcher. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). He was a boy who understood that although the door to eternity was close at hand, he already lived in the kingdom of God. Eisendrath’s wondrously woven hybrid work extols the materiality of reading, its pleasures and delights, with wild leaps and abounding grace.

Laura Sobiech has lovingly written her son Zach's memoir, Clouds, after losing him in an agonizing battle with cancer. The song touched not only family and friends, but through the help of a team of people who believed in Zach's music and message, it reached millions of people across the globe.Taking this disclaimer as its title, this meditative book by Kristina Jurotschkin brings together images from her photographic archive made in various places across Europe over numerous years.

Clouds (like those painted on the ceiling of the New York Public Library’s Rose Reading Room, which also grace the cover of this book) bridge the gap between divine and daydream. I’m not a musician; I’m just a filmmaker, and my prayer is that you get an opportunity—both through the reading of this beautiful book and the watching of our film based on it—to experience what I will fail to put into the magic and inspiration of Zachary David Sobiech. I have watched the movie on Disney+ months ago and after finding out that it was based on a memoir book, I feel compelled to read it despite my lack of experience reading one. This is the heartbreaking and inspiring story of a family as they go through the rollercoaster of their son’s cancer diagnosis, trying to find some greater purpose in his suffering and loss. I will admit that I was not prepared for the faith aspects of this book and I felt like that was unabalanced within the overall book. Overall, this was a phenomenal read and it took my focus off of myself and helped me think about what others are going through. Or a diary at times inspired by her muse Virginia Woolf and elevated to an urban essay on the English Renaissance, European art, failed American pastoral dreams, and the dissonances of modernity. The book is, on one level, an ambitious re-writing — a re-synthesis, even — of concepts of media and culture.

The Cloudspotter’s Guide: The Science, History, and Culture of Clouds by Gavin Pretor-Pinney touches on the science, history, and culture of clouds. These cloud books will inspire your children to find shapes in the clouds, learn their names, and imagine wonderful, magical, and cloudy adventures. There are certainly some complex texts that are not for the novice or regular cloud watcher but there are definitely some amazing books that help you understand the different cloud types and can help you name them when you spot them. It felt jumpy and while the sections were usually dated to give some sense of the timeline I wound up feeling confused about what was going on and when. The pain of losing a child is one I hope to never experience 1st hand, but in 2019 my 2 oldest sons experienced the loss of their younger brother, S.
