In Michael's July 2018 livestream, he mentioned that he also sneaked downstairs a few times in the middle of the night to have some caramel wafers, not just chocolate cake.

So, after some persuading by my book buddy reader Charlee I picked up a box set of A Court of Thorns and Roses - after literally devouring them and Charlee gifting me a copy of House of Earth and Blood a Crescent City novel I have finally admitted that I am a fan. It could be used in technology as children could bake a chocolate cake, and look at recipes and their features, which could also be done with KS2 children.Michael picking up crumbs can be used if he's seen typing something or pressing buttons (see 256Pi's Michael's Last Ice Cream to Me Every Dead Floor Roaring Downstairs, where this is used when Michael hijacks a train). Michael relates his childhood memory of his mum's delicious chocolate cakes, and how he couldn't resist eating a little of the leftovers. After Michael Rosen’s fantabulous answers to my questions on Thurs, I wanted to share with you the book which brought about the Q and A.

I’m pretty sure that all parents of small children will have read at least one book my Michael Rosen to their child. We loved this though, particularly Michael's crazed sugar lust ramblings and Kevin's glorious good-enough-to-eat choccy cake illustrations. What I love about this book is that it is written in such a way that you you can see what the child is thinking. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. Rosen relates how as a little boy one night he snuck down stairs just to look at the chocolate cake leftovers his mother would put in his lunch the next day, and how that changed to just licking up crumbs on the plate, to getting caught in the morning with chocolate on his face and an empty plate in the cupboard. Michael Rosen is hilarious (as per usual) and we can all relate to chocolate related self control issues.

Now, holding the palette knife horizontally, spread a layer of ganache on the top surface of the cake, making sure that you have an even coating. Rosen leaves it up to readers' imaginations what his punishment was, but does clearly say he was being greedy. And now, I’ve got the taste of it in my mouth, and I can’t stop myself, so I go, *imitates knife cutting* And I got all these slices, and TA-TA-TA. He illustrated Tiny Little Fly (Walker Books), written by Michael Rosen which won the Bull-Bransom Award in 2011. If you’re feeling ambitious and can hold your children at bay, you could even smear it all over the sides but we didn’t get that far as T was poised with pots of sprinkles. And then, I notice on the side of the cake there’s some little crumbly bits just falling off, so I think, if I take a knife, I could just…tidy it up a little bit. Couldn't help but hear Michael's voice reading the story in my head and with all the fabulous noises to make, this would certainly be perfect for reading aloud. Kevin’s first book, Mr Peek and the Misunderstanding at the Zoo (Templar Publishing), which unveiled Mr Peek, his eccentric and amazing new character, won the Bologna Ragazzi Award Opera Prima Award in 2009. All the while thinking this was a friend from school, I listened intently as she told the rest of the story surrounding Thunder Cake. It’s a picture book version of Rosen’s original poem, Chocolate Cake, from his collection ‘Poems and Stories About My Family’, but unfortunately it’s been re-written.

While the ganache is still fresh, arrange the Maltesers around the top surface of the cake and lightly dust the top with icing sugar. A little boy who really, really loves his mum’s chocolate cake wakes up in the middle of the night and decides to go downstairs just to look at it. His first degree in English Literature and Language was from Wadham College, Oxford and he went on to study for an MA at the University of Reading and a PhD at the former University of North London, now London Metropolitan. Rosen's use of sounds and noises will really bring to life the book and get children interested in reading.I love the way the typeface changes to enhance the descriptive words as they work seamlessly with the pictures. After deciding that children’s book illustration was for him, Kevin found a studio in central London where he works with other illustrators. Thinking he can hide the evidence, the little boy washes up the plate and the knife and goes back to bed. There’s also an added bonus: the final product has some serious shelf life— it will keep fresh for days, and it freezes well if you would like to bake it ahead of time. Line by line you can visualise every move made when sneaking downstairs, you can hear the creaks of the floorboards, and taste each and every crumb from the delicious chocolate cake.
