But Komi sees a bit of her old loneliness in the child and won’t give up on making a connection, even if she has to chase Rei all over town to do it! Faye Hopper considered that it is hard to tell if the humor of the series lies in Komi's "seemingly outlandish, absurd behavior" or if it is a "legitimate depiction of anxiety that we laugh at because we relate.

But even though she’s made great strides in her personal quest, she still has problems communicating.Tadano also suffers from social anxiety, albeit a milder version, and while at first bowled over by Komi's beauty, realizes that they have many things in common. Still, it's translated decently enough and paired with the author's graphic storytelling, the main gags are still reachable.
