I just want to say how much the Varjak Paw series has impacted my life, so much inspiration has been given to me by these books. The answer is that there is no official Varjak Paw film… As well as being a genius artist, Dave is a brilliant film director.

I read the book Varjak Paw and the Outlaw Varjak Paw and let me tell you they were the best books I had read in my almost 10 year long life.To continue their learning, they could go on to read the sequel, The Outlaw Varjak Paw, explore Dave McKean’s atmospheric illustrations in The Wolves in the Walls or Coraline, and discover other mentor texts such as Krindlekrax by Philip Ridley. My class have been blown away by Varjak Paw and we were about to get started on The Outlaw Varjak Paw after Easter. A bit of a misfit, Varjak looks and behaves differently to the rest of the family and is often ridiculed; but one day, when the family are in danger, he is the one who bravely ventures outside to seek help.

Varjak Paw is an absolute classic and with books like Phoenix adding to the Said shelf it is clear that there was a lot of weight and expectation on Tyger. Varjak Paw is a Mesopotamian Blue cat from a large family that live comfortably inside the Contessa’s large, grand house. Talk aboutthe story Discuss anything children wonder about; such as some of the vocabulary which may be unfamiliar, for example ‘outlaw’, ‘avalanche’ and ‘sewer’. This is one of the most original and interesting pieces I've seen about the book, and I hope you enjoy it too!g. confidently, nervously, excitedly, curiously, anxiously, to encourage children to change the way they are moving. Just like Varjak himself there's no fancy footwork in the language, just clean, spare prose that evocatively builds the world and conveys the action.
