Description

Standard copier and printer paper tends to be anywhere from 70 to 100 GSM. Meanwhile, stationery such as letterheads and compliment slips usually come in 100gsm to 120gsm, signifying their importance. These paper products, also known as offset paper, are uncoated and designed for rapid and repeated printing.

Weight is determined by GSM – grams per square meter. This is the weight in grams of the piece of paper if you took a sample of it as a 1 x 1 meter sheet.

and the weights continue to go up....but this is still 'text weight' paper....don't let the similar weights confuse Even though a higher GSM fabric offers higher durability, but when it comes to T-shirts these heavy fabrics are not wearable and preferable during summer weather. T-shirts chosen by us have a GSM strength of 180….GSM: Fabric Quality Metric. Clothing Wear This is the midway point between paper and card. It can be used for brochure covers and is great when used for more luxurious posters or quality double sided flyers. Paper weights go as low as 40gsm for tracing paper and the optimum for most laser printers is 80gsm general-purpose printing paper. General users don’t worry about GSM limitations as they mostly print standard documents using the 80gsm reams of paper, which is recommended. Another common global standard for paper dimensions is ISO B. This standard is used mainly for poster sizing.

There are lots of various standards for GSM paper. The weight determines what the paper is used for, and is often called the paper’s “grammage.” Movingaway from paper, this is regarded as card (board) weights which can add a quality finish to a book if used as a cover. Normal paper usually refers to printer paper, and as I briefly explained, standard printer copier paper is usually too light.

Paper Thickness and Weight Explained

If you are setting a fold in colour, we recommend scoring from a grammage of 170 gsm onwards so that the colour does not split at the fold. I would advise using printer paper only for sketching and pencil lines. If you have spent a decent chunk of time penciling and then paint over, it will end up all for waste. GSM isn’t the only way to measure the weight of paper. There are a few other systems that use different standards and measurements, which are used in different parts of the world: 1. Caliper In addition to card printing, we now have 3 crafting printers the Epson ET-8500, Epson ET-8550 and the Canon PIXMA TS9550 printer. The Epson ET-8500 and ET-8550 printers will print up to 800gsm (1.5mm), but for media above 300gsm, you will need to print through the straight paper path. The Canon TS9550 will print up to 300gsm and is a Canon-recommended crafting printer. ISO C is another global standard, but it applies to the size of envelopes that correspond to and fit the various A sizes of paper.

In discussing various types of paper, its most likely best to say the “surface feel”, which is the way paper experts depict the composition of the paper to the touch; the surface feel can let you know a ton about the paper, e.g. size, forms, surface composition, weight, and solidness. Offset(uncoated) paper

Otherwise called copier or printer paper, balance paper is often utilized for letters and note pads in light of the fact that it can be composed and printed on again and again; this makes it suitable for copiers, ink-plane, and laser printers. Text, book, offset, and coated paper – 25 x 38 in – Text paper is slightly different from bond paper, as it’s usually colored and is more textured. Book paper is the type used in printed books, as it holds up well to printing on both sides. This paper is also more textured than bond paper. You’ll find that most printing paper will have a gsm of between 60 to 120gsm with 80gsm being the standard. Above 120gsm can be considered ‘light card’ in the printing industry. 150gsm and above is in my experience acceptable for watercolor paper, but for light watercolor washes. I have found that 200gsm is the sweet spot for most watercolor painting. Links This entry was posted on Thursday, September 15th, 2016 at 10:01 am and is filed under .
